Looking to reach the 1600mhz my RAM is listed at, on my x58 board.

Right now I am running at 20x 179 with turbo on (so 21x i think) to get 3750mhz out of my 2666mhz i7 920.

The RAM is currently set at 2:8, running at listed timings of 9-9-9-24, but at 1428mhz (714x2).

I tried just simply moving the 179 up to 200, but in stress testing with p95 put my CPU temps up to 85C within 4 minutes.

So in order to achieve this I've read of a couple different options.

1. Change the memory from 2:8 to 2:10, lower the BCLK from 179 to 159/60. then change the UNCORE of the CPU to keep it around 3700ish.

2. Keep memory at 2:8, raise the BCLK from 179 to 200, then lower the CPU Multiplier to 19x. (if this is the best option, would i want to set it to 18x to let the turbo take it to 19? i could obviously turn turbo off- i don't know anything about it)

What would be my best bet here? I'm am definitely open to other suggestions.

Is this a Digital Storm machine? I ask because changing the overclock they configured will void your warranty I believe.

Yea, I have a few months left on my 3yr. Warranty or not it's not in my interest to fry my CPU which is why i want to basically keep it where it is.

Well, I'm not sure how specific DS is with their overclocking, to be absolutely safe you may want to shoot them an email just to be clear. I've never actually seen an official response on this issue, but at the same time haven't seen anything debunking it either.

If you just want to go for it, it depends on what your current QPI and VTT are. Normally I'd try to keep the QPI where you know its stable and definitely within 0.5v of the DRAM voltage. The VTT is obviously more stable the lower you can get it. So on that note I think your option 2 would be the best bet, BCLK on the x58 is easy to maintain at 200, even up to 205, its beyond 210 where things start to get get hairy. Its a matter of finding the balance between the VTT and the BCLK. If you are currently at 179, I'd step up like, +10 (test), +6 (Test), +3 (Test), +2 (Test). Or finer if necessary. Definitely disable Turbo Mode, do that before you do anything else. Drop to the 19x multiplier, 20x is notoriously less stable.

The settings in my initial post are where they've been since I got it. The voltages(also unchanged) are:

DRAM: 1.53
QPI PLL VCore: 1.1
CPU VTT: 1.3

Those voltages are good, I'd still try option 2, if the BCLK gives you trouble, take note of precisely where the problems begin.
