i would check to see if you have the latest video card drivers installed. If you have the most current i would uninstall reinstall them using driver sweeper to get of all the old drivers.

I've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling the video card driver, uninstalling and reinstalling the games in question. None of which have seemed to change anything.

I recommend checking the general stability of the system:
Here's a video guide on this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6hRraJ-nKA If those tests pass, then, proceed to test the graphic card(s): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvNFvuRc2Pk&feature=channel_video_title |

OK so I got Core Temp and turned on the Overheat Protection, then started Prime95. Almost instantly my CPU temps jump from 55° to 85°, tripping the overheat protection. From here I bumped the Protection to not kick in til 90° just to see how much farther it might go, within maybe two minutes it broke 90°.

This is as far as I can get Prime95 to go before it hits 90°

Either your room temperature is hot, or your have a lot of dust built up in your cooling system's fins. Can you try airing them out?
You can also try removing any overclocks by loading BIOS defaults and see if you still have stability issues. |

Your temps are too high, something is not right.
what is room temp? you don't need to enable the Overheat Protection the system itself will shutdown, thats ender for you just run realtemp and see what temps you get wit it, we like realtemp cause its the most accurate, forget core temp for now. what kind of cpu cooling do you have? temps over 85c are not acceptable. My room temp is sitting at about 32°, 27° now with the AC running, the air from which blows right past the intake fans on my case. For cooling I have the H20 with a 240mm radiator. Will try dusting and then using RealTemp right after this.

im no water cooling expert but mid 80's with liquid cooled set up like that theres def something wrong. I didnt do the conversion with the temps but as long as its not 80-90 degrees in your house id check to see if the system is working properly

32c means your room temp is like 89f, if that is the case that is your problem probably, your room temp is too hot.
your load temp with prime should be under 85c. |

The question though is would this be any reason for a select group of games to crash like that? While some like World of Warcraft and Minecraft experience no problems running?

Something I just thought of, all of this seemed to start the morning after my computer downloaded Win 7 Service Pack 1. Any chance that might have done something?

So after some google action I came across on how to uninstall service packs, tried it and now my game opens. I remember they had a problem with one of the XP packs too, glad I finally figure this out.
