    Posted: 06 May 2015 at 10:51am
I have a lvl 4 Vanquish and was considering upgrading my GPU from a gtx770 to a gtx970 since Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight comes free with a 970. Would I need to be worried about bottle necking or power supply? I have a i5-4590 3.3GHz CPU and 600W power supply. I bought my vanquish last September when they used the 770, but now I see the vanquish comes with a 970 and 750W power supply for the same price as I paid for the 770 and 600W power supply. Argh. Any other advice would be appreciated thanks.

For most games and watching videos etc, what you see on the screen will be almost unnoticeable.

However, given the following it is a good upgrade.

Better passmark score
8,649 vs 6,148 More than 40% better passmark score

More memory
4,096 MB vs 2,048 MB 2x more memory

Higher pixel rate
58.8 GPixel/s vs 33.5 GPixel/s More than 75% higher pixel rate

More render output processors
56 vs 32 24 more render output processors

Higher turbo clock speed
1,178 MHz vs 1,085 MHz Around 10% higher turbo clock speed

Better passmark direct compute score
4,133 vs 3,010 More than 35% better passmark direct compute score

Lower TDP
148W vs 230W More than 35% lower TDP

The 600W P/S is quite sufficient.

Thanks for the help. Yea I wasn't expecting a huge boost in performance if I upgraded to a 970, but I was planning on buying Witcher 3 and Batman Arkham Knight which is roughly $120 retail and if I could get $150 for the 770 then it would be like $80 to upgrade. 970 is roughly $350 minus $150 for selling my 770 minus $120 I was going to spend anyway on Witcher 3 and Batman = $80 difference. But if you don't think it will make much of a difference maybe I should wait until a Cyber Monday sale. Decisions decisions.

If you are buying the card separately make sure you check NVIDIA's website for the vendors that are offering the bundle. Not everyone is participating in this one.

For graphics intensive games like witcher and batman you would see a significant increase but for the every day stuff your 770 is not far behind.

I believe you only get a choice of which game you want, not both of them. This still saves $60, though.

Well, I'm still going to play it on the GTX770 ... Once I get through Witcher 2, that is.

The GTX 770 will do fine. The main differences will be in lighting, reflections, shadows, particle density, etc.

When you are up to your butt in dragons and bad guys you won't pay attention to all that, though.
