tju76, not everyone can lug around a desktop. this is about portability more than money. granted, that's a serious amount of money for any rig. if you want speed, storage and above all portability, this is the rig for me. if that picture is of your rig, it looks fierce. i like that in a desktop! oorah!

As a possible alternative this is a more pared down laptop that has a true high performance SSD. I dropped the cpu down because the difference is only 0.2 gigahertz. I also dropped the ram down because its doubtful that endless your doing heavy video editing you will need more than 24g.

hello vigil, let me introduce myself first. my name is mark. i don't pretend to be a computer whiz or anything along that line. i don't know what your spin is on this build is, but i have taken a great deal of shopping around on many sites looking for what i call a portable cray. i do research for a few discrete clients and they have no patience. ergo my dilemma is clear. SSDs are too
expensive and there are some reliability issues associated with them which you may already be aware. i'm not going to pretend that my original configuration could
use some tweeking, but i think it works for speed,storage
and communications needs i have for my specific work of which some is restricted in nature. i can't expect anyone else to understand my specific needs, but i do appreciate
any and all constructive comments and suggestions with more detailed explanations of their changes or suggestions. thank you for yours by the way.
