~$2,500 Expectations: This is the first proper gaming computer I'm purchasing. I'd like to be able to play games like BF3, Skyrim, Crysis, etc. on High settings, with a minimum of 60+FPS. I'm planing to purchase probably something around 24" for the display. I hear the Dell Ultrasharp is a good choice and would like to know if I can purchase it through DS. ANY advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance. Usage: Gaming - BF3, Skryim, Crysis, etc. Special Needs: Would prefer air-cooled and also need the wireless capabilities. Hi hopesy97.....Welcome to the forums.
That is a good build but I would suggest a couple of changes. Drop the ram speed to 1600Mhz. The faster ram will never be seen. Drop the Wireless card. the Deluxe mobo has built in WiFi. Go to stage 2 overclocking. The D14 cooler and the i7-3770k chip can do it safely. If you stay with a single gpu, the gtx 670, change the power supply to the 750HX. It is tops and comes with a 7 year warranty and is all you need. For the 24" Dell at 1920x1080 resolution, the gtx 670 will play BF3 on high settings with no problem. For Ultra settings, which some want but is not needed for great game play, you'd need to sli, 2x gtx670. The gtx 670 4gb card is more for higher resolution monitors. You could save $100 by going with the 2GB vram card. 4GB doesn't hurt of course, so your call and budget will decide. DS doesn't sell the Dell UltraSharps. Dell's website or Amaxon, I believe, have them. The best case is the HafX, under Dreadnought, but the 500R is also a good case. But, we always mention the HafX. Great airflow. So I took your advice with everything there (including case) and I still have a few questions. I've changed to the SLI 2x GTX670 and have two inquiries: Do I need to change to 750HX now for power supply and should I go with 2GB vram or 4GB?
The SLI will take a little longer to get the money but I can wait. Also is a sound card worth it? The PSU that bprat suggested will not affect your performance in any way. The only thing that it will do is limit you to two video cards. With the two that you have, I doubt that you will need to upgrade any time soon. However, your original PSU would allow you to add a third and a fourth card in the future. From what you say about usage and monitor, and assuming that those remain accurate, I would say that you would never need a third and a fourth card.
If the monitor you are purchasing is 2560 by 1600, if you will use two or more monitors, or if you just plan on significant future-proofing, then the 4GB will probably be worth it over the 2GB. In all honesty, unless you plan on buying a second high resolution monitor in the future, or buying a future high resolution monitor (such as 4K, when it comes out), it will probably be wasted. As for the sound card, it depends on your taste. The integrated motherboard sound should be more than sufficient for almost anything, but if you are an audiophile, or you just take pride in extremely crisp sound, the sound card would be worth it. Personally, the integrated motherboard audio is more than good enough for me. |

Hi hopesy97....That is a real nice build. I agree with Orange7 on the 2Gb vram vs 4GB vram. If you stay with the 24" monitor then the 2GB is all you need. but the 4 gb doesn't hurt. Just saves you $200 for the sli setup.
My only other suggestion would be to drop the 16b for the 8Gb ram, the most gaming can use and put the $50 to the 1050HX psu, along the same lines of Orange 7's suggestion. The HX series psu have a 7 year warranty telling of its quality, and the 1050W will give you lots of headroom should you need it later. The 750HX will work with sli 670 because of their lower power requirements, but not much room for growth. Even if you don't change anything you are good to go. Great build. You have all the help you need but I wanted to suggest that you get the Corsair 1050 PS, that bprat22 suggested, if you stay with a 1000w PS. The Corsair 1050HX is a better choice than the DS unit you have selected now. I would prefer the 1050HX over the 750HX just so you are operating in the most efficient place in the power curve.
