Hi! I've been looking to make a purchase through DS for a while and I've come up with a config that hopefully will meet my expectations. I'm hoping to spend less than $4k and I will use this rig primarily to game (pretty eclectic collection-from point-and-click to Mass Effect3 to BF3) but will also be using it for simple work stuff using Excel and checking e-mail/web surf.

Hi rjazz2....For strictly gaming and no video rendering, animations, etc you can save a few hundred bucks by going with the Z77 deluxe mobo with i7-2600k chip.  The X79 platform is for renderings etc that can use the quad channel ram and 6 core cpu you picked.   Gaming doesn't need it.

This build will give you the same gaming performance for $400-500 less.

I put in the D14 air cooler because it is reliable, quiet and will keep that chip with stage 2 oc safe.  The H100 is also very good but I usually go for the less likely to cause problems, but either will work fine.

Forget the performance fan kit.  All it does is mess with the best air cooled case, swapping quiet 200mm high airflow fans for small noisy ones.

If you wait another couple of weeks for the ivy bridge cpu's, you'll get the latest with a rumored 10% increase in tasks like MS Office, etc and other features you might or might not use.  Just a thought. Gaming wouldn't see much increase.
See what you think and good luckBig%20Smile

So the computer is frickin' sweet btw!! The only concern I have so far is the DVD drive (I have 2 drives: 1 BluRay and 1 DVD)seems to have problems reading discs. Even when I put in a disc to burn stuff it takes forever to load. When I put in a dvd game, it doesn't read it at all. Hmmmmm.....
