Budget:
$2400 Expectations: I'd like to play Far Cry 4 at 1900x1200 on Ultra Settings, and eventually I want to play everything on the Oculus Rift. Usage: Word processing, web surfing, 2D image editing, and gaming. Saved Ticket #: 1091381 Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Digital Storm Apollo Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 4790K 4.0 GHz (Codename Devils Canyon) (Unlocked CPU) (Quad Core) Motherboard: GIGABYTE G1.Sniper Z97 (Intel Z97 Chipset) (Onboard Creative Sound) System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1866MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair CX750M Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD (120GB Samsung 840 EVO) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (1TB Seagate) Storage Set 3: - No Thanks RAID Config: - No Thanks RAID Card: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Graphics Card(s): 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 4GB (Includes PhysX) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio HPC Processor: - No Thanks Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 120mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Airflow Control: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires High-End Motherboard Selection) Boost Graphics Card(s): Yes, Overclock the video card(s) as much as possible with complete stability Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows CD) I think this may be overkill for my monitor (1900x1200), I'm also not sure if the overclocking for the CPU and GPU is worth it. Oddly, I was also looking at the VANQUISH LVL 4, which is obviously significantly cheaper. But I've heard really good thinks about the GeForce 980 and I'm intrigued by the prospect of being able to upgrade with SLI in the future. I also wanted more RAM... Although I'm also not sure how necessary that is. I really want to pull the trigger on a new PC soon. :) Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. |

It has arrived! In fact, I'm typing on it right now!
Everyone at DS was very helpful, especially Janna in customer service. The computer itself is a thing of beauty, so a big thanks to the wizard who put it together (maybe Matthew? He verified it). I haven't tried any games yet, but I'm downloading Total War: Rome 2 as we speak. :D (I was a little afraid of the shipping because I chose ground, but boy do they take care to pack it in about 6 tons of protective airbags and cardboard. Arrived totally unscathed) :) |

Wow. That's really all I can say.
So far, nothing I've thrown at this machine has phased it. The EVGA overclock of the GTX 970 is worth every extra penny; I can't wait to get two of these bad boys for SLI. (I think it helps that I "only" have a 1900x1200 monitor) It's silent, but deadly. I never hear the thing... Although I did get a fancy new mechanical keyboard, which I'm loving as well. Also, I really appreciate the super-speedy start up that the flash HD allows. What a great purchase!!! |
