Excited
Eagerly anticipating the first email notification that my order is processed and work proceeding on my first DS purchase.  If the reviews in the forums and mags are any indication - it likely won't be my last.

I bet like many others on here - I'm the one that usually ends up building rigs for friends and family - but when it comes to my own system - I've been willing to let others build them.

11 years ago I had a custom built tower from ABS shipped to my freshman dorm room, all I've done to it since was to add storage space, and add memory...  but let's just say - the legs of a 3GB motherboard, P4 processor, and 256MB 8x AGP graphics were tired to say the least 3 years ago when I added a Qosmio Laptop to get me my gaming fix - and even that is just barely scraping by... But now the 11 year old (older than dirt in computer years) is too weary to even load email and browse the internet efficiently Im%20with%20Stupid, so now it's time for some true power.

I can't wait to open the box and see that beautiful white case laying inside - ready to deliver more than I can ask of it.

That feeling 11 years ago was good - I expect this one to be great.... now I'm just going to need suggestions on games to thoroughly put it through it's paces when it arrives.

Any thoughts from those who have gone before me?
If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

Specs to which?  new one - ODE level 1 - easy enough...

good lord - for the old tower.... let me go dust off the slide rule and the microfiche...

2.8GHz Pentium 4
Asus P4S800 Motherboard - 800 MHz FSB - 8K L1, 512K L2
256MB NVidia GeForce 6800GS - 1GHz clock speed
2GB of Geil PC3200
160GB IDE Western Digital HDD
(2x) 250GB IDE Western Digital HDD
24x Lite-On LightScrip DVD Burner

And on the almost pointless side of the specs -
Sound Blaster Audigy 2
Kilpsch Pro Audio 5.1 THX surround speakers
(4) 4-color LED fans
and a Blue Cold Cathode tube that pulsed to music...

11 Years ago it wasn't a bad system... not top of the line, but pretty close.  I do remember replacing the graphics card though - went from an AGP card to a PCI card - original was a 128MB and I want to say it was a GeForce 4, but that's the best I can remember.

My 5.1 is actually in a box in the attic right now - I'm thinking the board in the sub died, because about a year ago i started getting a persistent hiss in it - everything I read said replace the board, but I couldn't find a replacement.  So I replaced the whole thing with a Klipsch 2.1 THX system - didn't really need 5.1 anymore just having the computer in my home office and browsing the internet.

With the ODE-L1 coming - I may have to look more at bringing the 5.1 back and maybe even consider the 7.2 the way you did.

Hi ks.docb,

For future reference you can order the sub-unit directly from Klipsch. Everything is mounted on the back plate so you don't just replace the amp. A quick and easy fix. The unit for my Pro Media 2.1 was $75 with shipping.

I found someone that rebuilds the boards and makes them better than new. Here is his email address, he can fix you and guarantee his work. htkclk @juno.com  My Klipsch rocks now. He added a cooling fan also.

Stage 1 to Stage 4 in minutes... after 24hrs at stage 1, I got 3 updates (5:13,5:13,5:14) that put me at stage 4.

Now even my wife is excited and anticipating the arrival of this wonderful piece of working art.

I'm confused..Is the OP asking for game suggestions ? or sound system suggestions ?

For games, it depends on what you like to play. FPS or RPG's ?
As for sound..I use ASTRO A30 Gaming headphones with the ASTRO mini AMP Mixer.

I was looking for game suggestions - I have sound covered.

I play racing games (NFS) - strategy (C&C), FPS (Warhammer, COD, BF3), and MMORPG (Guild Wars primarily - don't have any others atm)

I'm up for really any kind, as long as the premise is decent and I'm into the game after a few minutes.  I'm a borrow and buy guy - borrow from friends based on recommendation (free trial if possible)- if I like it, i buy it... if I don't - uninstalled and given back.

Looks awesome doc ! I am sure it will bring many adventures, laughs, sweaty palms, and few deaths in the gaming arena.

2 years later, and I still look at my rig eith a smile, a nod and pride. DS does it right, and that's hard to find these days.

If you ever hit the BF3 maps add me to your friends list:

Were on most nights. No worries if you don't.
Great looking set-up ! Enjoy (-;
