Hey all... Growing up in the high desert in the 60's we had a lot of box fans and whatnot.. before AC and Swampcoolers were all the rage. We learned early that not only is it necessary to keep the grills of all fans clean to promote airflow, it is also necessary to clean the leading edges of individual fan-blades in a dusty environment to help the maximum amount of air to 'roll-off'.

Why do I bring this up? While doing my weekly Sunday cleaning on my rig, I noticed that the blades of all 3 case fans and the cpu heatsink fan are building dust ridges on their leading edges. Now, just cleaning the edges isn't enough, the entire blade (yes, EACH blade) has to be free of dust ridges for the fan to work at it's optimum airflow.

With older box fans, brute force to remove the blade assembly from the spindle is necessary. I am a little leery to apply brute force to pull fan blades from my rig's fans.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

(and NO, I do not plan to pull the blades from the GTX770, canned air only for those little puppies.)

If canned air doesn't do it, I just use a cloth , my finger tip or Q-tip to run over the blades. Then smack it with air again if needed.

Have fun.

Yes, as I do... What I neglected to mention in the first post (cuz it was 4:30am ) is that I want to coat the fan blades in dry lube/teflon coating to keep the dust/gunk buildup to a minimum.

I am ~~NOT~~ going to randomly spray anything like that toward my CPU, etc..

I'm not sure I'd put anything on the fan blades you don't want deposited all over the inside of the rig.   The blades are a hard plastic and spin pretty darn fast.  Some have suggested dryer sheets, but that also might leave fabric softener on the inside.

Just me. Big%20Smile
