I just put this configuration together:
Saved Ticket #: 940888 http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=940888 Now my question is, is the Hydrolux cooling option really worth it over the H20 Stage 2? It's a $500 difference: (http://www.digitalstormonline.com/configuratorinfo.asp?id=12120)) I'm only going to be cooling my CPU. Will the Hydrolux keep my CPU's life span much longer and cooler than the cheaper option? I'm just wondering if you think it's overkill based on my configuration. Thanks. |

Water cooling does have its advantages, like higher overclock potential and quieter if the video card is also water cooled.
But, for most it's more a luxury than needed. A sealed unit like the H100i will give you all the cooling you need. You could go to stage 1 overclock , an inexpensive performance boost with the higher clock speed on all cores. Unless you plan on adding another 780 in sli, you could save some more by dropping to the 850w Cosair. Looks good. Edited by bprat22 - 27 Mar 2014 at 3:46am |

The custom water cooler isn't really worth it if you are just going to go with the CPU. If you want the motherboard and/or graphics cards, then the custom system makes more sense. The other thing is that the closed loop liquid coolers don't require maintenance, while the custom ones do.

I would say a custom water cooled system is worth it if everything is being cooled by it (CPU, Chipset, GPUs) but if you're just going to do the CPU, the closed loop systems are a much more economical solution and no maintenance.
