Budget:
[$2000--$2300] Expectations: A rig that can handle the newest games on the highest settings. Usage: I'll be using it for gaming mostly. Not extremely hard core, but games like mass effect 1-3, minecraft, cod, assassins creed for example. I want to be able to run all those on the highest settings possible, even forcing more through NVIDIA Inspector. Special Needs: Got a 120Hz monitor ready, not really for 3D (but I will be using it) but just for the 120Hz performance, so want the rig to be able to handle that. I'm fairly decent with computers, and have been a gamer for a long time. I'm just done with consoles, not cause I hate them but because high res is pretty darn enticing :) Saved Ticket #: 667513 Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 800W Corsair GS (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (16MB Cache) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB (Includes PhysX) (Overclocked EVGA 015-P3-1582-BR) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Corsair H80 Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Standard Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 Automatic Overclocking Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty |

Hi cdavis117 Welcome to the forums...
You didn't mention monitor size or resolution, so I'll go 24" at 1920x1080 just for reference. To max out modern gaming on that resloution you'd need sli, 2x gpu and up the psu to 1050Hx to handle it. Or, go with 750HX psu and a single gtx680, just released and the best card out there. It's expensive but still cheaper than going sli 570's and upping the PSu. We like the D14 air cooler better than the H series coolers for dependability and lots less to go wrong and quieter, but your call. Not sure the D14 would fit that case, probably, just not sure until I check it out. Go for stage 2 overclocking, it's a boost in gaming, safe and the cpu and cooler can handle it just fine. The HafX is quiet, has 230mm and 200mm fans and is the best air cooling case, but that's me. The gtx680 and that chip don't run very hot, so your call of course. The changes if made would still be within your budget. See what ya think and Good Luck Edited by bprat22 - 23 Mar 2012 at 3:49am |

Thanks for the help! Ya, its a 23" 1920x1080 monitor. I'm loving the gtx 680, specially the more I read about it. I'll probably go with the HafX case, just because I think it looks awesome and can hold at ton of fans like you said. In reference to the D14 cooler vs the H series, is the air cooler more effective than the liquid? You mentioned dependability of the H series, do they have problems? Thanks for your help!!

The D14' s cooling is better than H80 but about the same as H100. As far as dependability, they have had some problems, even some of our forum members with it. I'm sure most don't t have problems, but nobody has had problems with the air coolers. D14 is a big block of cooling fins with fans attached, no tubing, or small pump or fan controller in the pump head to go bad. The H series do have a 5 year warranty, so most must run pretty good.
