SWEET , i just priced one out, and im glad that i didnt wait, i cant afford it
and when i say i can't afford i7 its because the only i7 i would get would be the extreme, and with that and the current config i have, plus ram would of ran me 5k plus. that was my budget and no higher. ill wait a couple of years for i7 when i save up some more money Edited by jtspectra2 - 17 Nov 2008 at 2:09am |

The only people that can say that Core i7 is a bad deal are those people that still use P45 and DDR2. Because Core i7 and Core 2 are identical in pricing when you compare X48 to X58 and Q9550 to 920 -.-
Core 2 = $1973 Core i7 = $1925 |

theres no core i7 for laptops. those don't come until later in 2009 when DMI is introduced with Lynnfield and Havendale.

(Alex hands skyR an award for his intelligence).
Sorry DST4ME, the price of triple channel memory isn't dropping any time soon.

I know the laptop version does not come out,I'm talking about our current laptop BC with q9550, an i7 version of that.
I have faith the ram prices will drop in about 3 to 5 month, but again wishful thinking Edited by DST4ME - 16 Nov 2008 at 7:19pm |

Understood. The current laptop, "BC" won't support i7 because the internal motherboard does not feature that socket.

i7 looks like it's coming along. While the triple channel memory is expensive, that's what I think really makes the difference with the i7 / x58 mobo combo.
Off-topic... any inside scoop on the Dragon platform. (phenom II x4, mobo... etc) I swear, eventually I will con the mom into letting me spend some cash... I have faith in AMD and think they will have a fairly competetive offering next year. |

I'm curious to see how EVGA's X58 performs. I highly doubt anything will top ASUS's PT6 and Rampage II for a while though.

Isn't EVGA, XFX mobos go by the vanilla settings (with some add ons) of the refference mobo?
Asus and some others are the ones that go extreme for a bigger price range. (Price wise EVGA and XFX are cheaper right?) |

Their is not really any need for i7 unless you are doing more than gaming. Core 2 can run all games just fine and its four cores are not utilized in most games anyways. By the time they are im guessing when new vidio game consoles come out it will be time for Haswell to come out. This is what I am waiting to upgrade to next. gimmie 16 threads.
