So it's been awhile and my old computer has grown rather outdated and i was looking to buy a new one.
My budget is around $1700 though I'd like to keep the price closer to $1500. Im going to be playing on a 1920x1080 24 inch monitor and i already have a keyboard and mouse. Im a pretty big gamer and the games im going to be playing are Tera, Diablo 3, SWTOR, and GW2. And any other future mmo's that happen to catch my eye. I would like a computer that's able to run all these games at their highest setting very smoothly. The computer is going to be solely for gaming and i am also willing to spend more than my budget if thats what it takes. Thanks in advance for your help! |

Hi Sbrar....Welcome to the forums...
For your budget the ODE level 1 for $1515 is tough to beat. I don't play those games, but I do think the gtx570 will play them on highest settings. To play other games like Metro, BF3, etc on highest settings would require a sli, 2x gpu or the new gtx680, both way above your posted budget. Another option is this custom config. It has better case, psu, cpu cooler and higher overclocking. The psu and LE mobo don't allow sli, just like the ODE 1. Config # 670274 Cost $ 1818 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V LE (Intel Z68 Chipset) (New B3 Revision) (Does Not Support SLI) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (500GB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (16MB Cache) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) (EVGA 012-P3-1571-BR) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 Extreme Performance H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty This build would give you a little better gaming perfromance because of the higher oc'ing, but the cpu and gpu are the same as ODE 1. MMOs being my thing, the build above will play those game at varing degree. I say varing because MMO's (as you prob know) constantly change, SW for example is built on the WORST engine ever. (great game, horrible engine) So REALLY strong PCs can suffer and really bad ones excel. Strange but true.
The only game that -might- (and I doubt it) make the PC work is GW2 based on its new engine but I cant comment on that because I am not currently a tester. I currently play Diablo 3 on less then the above system just fine with no studder.

To piggyback off of bpratt's suggestion, you can save a few bucks "downgrading" to the i5 2500K, since games don't utilize four cores, much less eight threads across four cores (the biggest difference between the i5 2500K and the i7 2600K is hyper-threading support). The i5 2400 can even come close to matching the 2500K, but it has a far lower overclocking ceiling due to its locked multiplier. I would recommend the 2500K on a tight budget.
The GTX 570 is a very good card for current-gen MMOs, and should play for a year or two more on slowly degrading settings. If you drop to the 2500K you can up to a motherboard that allows for SLI, on bpratt's configuration, i.e. the ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3, and then toss in another 570 in a few months assuming the price drops and you can afford it.
