After several years, it is time for a new rig. Any thoughts on this build? What about keeping Windows 7 as I have heard Windows 8 isn't as user friendly.

Looks like a solid setup.
I highly recommenced going with Windows 8. The new updates that came out really make it easy to use. There is a slight learning curve but once you get used to it, it's just as fast as Windows 7, if not, faster. Edited by Nav - 18 Apr 2014 at 5:17pm |

Win 8 is a lot like the NY Yankees and Dallas Cowboys. Either love or hate, with no real middle ground.
Coming from XP, I can agree with Nav... There is a bit of a learning curve. I've already uninstalled Stardock to work with the Metro style. Once you get the hang of it, it's not so bad.

As far as Windows version goes, yes it seem like it is either love or hate. But, for the best gaming performance going forward it is the best choice.
Here is a link on how the set Windows 8.1 to boot to desktop, rather then Metro: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2055381/how-to-eradicate-metro-from-your-windows-8-1-pc.html |

Agree with the Win8.1 upgrade...
Only change I would make is changing drives to Samsung & WD - faster, more reliable... Great looking setup otherwise... |

Looks great. If this is primarily a gaming rig on a single monitor, the 780Ti for less money will give you about 10% over the Titan in fps. But, depends what you need and use. If you feel the need for the extra vram, then that's that.
Nice. |

Thanks for all the replies. It sounds like most of you suggest going with Windows 8. I'll read up on that a bit more.

Yes, Samsung 840 Pro and WD Black will perform better and offer longer warranties. I can't believe I missed that. |

What is the main difference between the Samsung 840 pro and 840 Evo? The 840 pro's have smaller GB sizes than the Evo's. |

A bit better performance and a better warranty (5 vs 3 years). The Evo drives have better overall consistency in performance. Here is a review that has benchmarks for both drives: http://www.anandtech.com/show/7173/samsung-ssd-840-evo-review-120gb-250gb-500gb-750gb-1tb-models-tested Edited by danjw1 - 21 Apr 2014 at 12:56pm |
