HI i am looking at a new apollo system but i have a few Graphx card questions.

I run 3 monitors For eve online and also world of tanks. they are not in stereo but run 3 different game clients at once for multi boxing. I am currently set up on a evga gtx 680 using a dvi-i/dvi-d/and a hdmi connection. i was looking at the gtx 980 but it has only 1 hdmi and 1 dvi connections with 3 display ports. Will this work for me as i have never used a display port nor do i know anything about them. I would love to run 2 980's but this pushes the system out of my price range by 600 dollars or would i be better served with  2 gtx 970's?

My budget is 3500 dollars
this is what i had come up with Configuration Code: 1180680 (just not sure on the cards)

thanks for your time

I've never used one, but there are Dp to DVI, HDMI adapters.     Most support 1920x1080.

Depending on what manufacturer/model gtx 970/980 you get will also determine the monitor ports.  Some do have 2x DVI, a HDMI and then DP

The gtx 970 is within 15% of the 980 in gaming performance.  For sli, I'd go sli gtx 970 especially if your on 1920x1080 monitors.

Here's a link with a rough comparison.......

Congrats! and welcome to the DS family.

Now, if you want that fancy "Verified Customer" badge, all you have to do is make certain that the ordering email and the forum email are exactly the same (they are case sensitive!).

Game on!

Got a e mail on my build. One of the options I selected was not compatable. I called and spoke to Tammi and she was great to work with. We adjusted my build anf I even came out 9 dollars cheaper which was immediately refunded :). You would never see ----- do that. Made me feel good. Thanks to Tammi for all her great help.

ok had to make a another Compromise ( its kinda frustrating that the site allows you to pick stuff u can not use)

Anyway Pulled the fan control off ( would not work with my tower )and upgraded the Water cooler  to the Corsair H110i GT - 280mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler.

Have a question about my 2 graphx cards..Running in sli do i hook all 3 of my monitors to 1 card or can i use both hdmi on each card and then 1 display port?

Strong<--- me trying to figure it out LOL

It's my understanding that SLI only supports two monitors. A third graphics card with a DIFFERENT GPU or on board graphics is used for the third monitor. Surround mode in SLI will treat the three monitors as one but this generally is lousy for gaming.

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/sli/faq

http://www.nvidia.in/object/sli-technology-multimonitor-in.html

Sli only supports 2 monitors in "focus mode". In this mode you chose a main screen or focus screen that is used for only gaming. The second screen can be used to for internet or whatever while gaming. The third screen must be disabled. In surround you can use all 3 monitors but the computer treats them like 1 super high resolution monitor. Unfortunately most games do not work with surround. To enable sli just open the NVidia control panel and click on sli. You can then turn on the second screen.

Outside of Surround, the only way to get 3 monitors with dual SLI is to add a third card. Then you'd have an SLI focus monitor, a secondary monitor from the SLI pair (off the same card) and an auxilliary monitor from the third. This would most likely give you slightly higher performance on the SLI focus monitor but while running the two of them the performance would be lower than only a single monitor on SLI.
The other is to dedicate the SLI pair to only the focus monitor and let the third card run the other two as auxiliaries.

or you can:
Disable your SLI and run the two auxs off the second card. This will allow a higher performance level on your primary monitor since all of the first card's assets are dedicated to a single screen, and smoother operation than the first method above...

hope this helps. (and makes sense)

I will be needing to run 3 monitors as I run 3 game client's at once
I am currently doing this with a GTX 680. The 2 970's should be able to do this as well.

Other wise it is a waste to have 2 cards. It was my understanding that this is possible with the 2. I will research some more and post my findings.

Did you not read all of my post or check the links provided?

You can run the three monitors together just not all three in SLI mode. SLI only supports two monitors.

yea i read it last night. Not sure i really understand it but i was working so i was going to reread it today

Sorry if i sound noobish but i got to catch up with the newer stuff. My system is 7 years old and has a single card so i am behind the time.. I am not even sure how sli works except i think its 2 cards working as one.

This is the best system i have EVER bought so i asked a ton of questions of my friends in my gaming community and they all said to go with 2 cards at a minimum so i did
