You'll have to see if your software programs are compatible with SLI...I know Adobe is.

I assume you know how much memory you need, so it looks like the configuration with more cores and sizable memory could definitely handle your tasks. Editing 4K, from what I've heard, can be a bear so I'm not sure how that will go...you may want to poke around some professional editing forums to get their opinion.

How tolerant are you of memory errors? If something has to be extremely accurate, then you may want to consider a Xeon processor and ECC ram. Currently no professional graphics cards have HDMI 2.0 outs on them, so you'd need to have monitors that support DP 1.2 if you want to display 4K at 50/60Hz.

Also, keep in mind that SMPTE has not yet finalize the UHD standard yet. Still up in the air are color space (a lot of talk about REC 2020), dynamic range (probably end up using 12-14 bits), among other things. Hardware requirements can change between now and practically no current hardware can meet REC 2020.

I will look into Xeon and ECC ram.

Thanks for the information.

We would be better able to provide advice if you would let us know what particular applications you intend to run. I would also suggest you do some research on the applications to determine if they are multi threaded or single threaded and if they can take advantage GPU acceleration. Multi threaded apps benefit from more cores, while single threaded apps work better at higher clocks. GPU acceleration would allow the applications to use the GPU to accelerate floating point operations, which they excel at.

Congrats and welcome. Just curious... you do realize you only picked 250GB of storage right? That's not exactly a lot. Do you have your own HDD's and/or SSD's you plan on putting in there? I'm just curious is all.

Extreme Cooling: Standard Factory Heat-sink and Fan

Change that. Please, just take my word. Pay extra, get a better air cooler if that's what you really want... but don't get standard.

Also most motherboards onboard audio is a lot better now than what they was so a sound card may not be needed but its your choice really on that matter. I would compare both audio specs and see which is better before adding a sound card.

I have been using Dell and HP desktops for over 20 years. This is my first desktop from DigitalStorm. Hope it will last at least 5 years for this system.

Did you change the extreme cooling or did you leave it as is? Also do note that DS is closed on the weekends but they will begin processing Monday, if you didn't change it and they run into heating issues during their testing they will probably contact you.

They are close today. I will see if they ask me to add the cooling. If they do, I might ask them to remove the audio card and add the cooling instead.

They open at 9PST... and they are usually busier than a one-armed paper hanger at that time.. so try early and try often.

Unless it's changed, they'll probably run into an issue with the cpu cooling as none of the 2011 socket cpu's came with a fan/heatsink.

I guess intel figured you're going to be buying an Enthusiast cpu, you'll have an enthusiast cooling.

Though at the end of the day, it's your pc and your money, but in my opinion, a better cpu cooler is 100x more important than a sound card.
