I got my x17 w/the 7970m about a week ago and it runs great. All my games like BF3 and Rift get good fps with no problems.

I'm curious as to why the gpu/cpu/laptop never gets hot, or at least warm. I feel like its not using its full potential. All my settings are set to max performance. It just seems odd that it does not get warm lol. Anyone have any advice or know of a setting I'm overlooking?

Lol - well.

I can't say I've really heard the "my laptop runs too well" idea before.
If you are playing on maxed out settings then.. praise to the PC gods. :D

Must just be a well built machine :) Im also comparing this x17 to my replacment m14x alienware, which the fan kicked in high gear when gaming.

Whats funny is some of the reviews for the 7970m said this card ran a little hot. But in my case this is not true. Im looking forward to some new drivers for this card though as its pretty new and still needs some tuning. Oh and yes, praise to the PC gods =p

A lot of games do play well because the Intel graphics is actually pretty good and picks up the slack. If the GPU is not getting hot or the fan not kicking in, it's likely that Enduro is not switching to the 7970M.  You can run a GPU utility such as MSI Afterburner to check but, if the games play well, then sometimes it's better not to know Smile

Supposedly AMD is working to provide a driver update to address the Enduro issue although, in my opinion, I'd stay with the drivers that came with your laptop till others try it and report in. The last 2 drivers, 12.6 and 12.7, caused more issues than they fixed.

I think the cooling is great in this laptop. No problems myself other than not being able to set AA and AF because of Enduro but I can deal with that for the time being.

That would be great if i could just use the 7970. Nividia has the nice option to do this.

On a diffrent note I want to upgrade my RAM and can I use any DDR3 1600MHz laptop memory...corsair, kingston..ect?
