I just bought a new DS computer and I'm considering asking the loved ones for a new monitor for Xmas and I was hoping to get some suggestions for a good one. A few important things to note are that I am pretty seriously visually disabled so I need to have the monitor be over 30" and I would like for the resolution to be 1440 for gaming but also able to play movies/tv shows respectably. I'm hoping to find something under 700$ but price should be the last consideration on a suggestion.

Thanks.

The only brands you're going to see for under $700 but over 30" @ 1440p+ will be your Korean brands. They make amazing 27" 1440p monitors in the $300 range... but I can't vouch for their 30"+ monitors.

Now if you can go with a 27", ASUS has a PB278Q which is a 27" 60hz 1440p monitor. It was the best 1440p monitor on the market until they released the PG278Q which is a 144hz ROG 27" 1440p monitor.

I personally use both and they are amazing. But the PG278Q is about $800. The PB278Q is in the $400 range.

For under $700 you can get the PB287Q which is a 28" 4k monitor... Your GTX 980 can handle 4k, just depends on what games you play to determine the FPS. You can get over 100FPS on some games and other's it'll be like 40 fps (depending on graphics settings).

Those are the best recommendations I can make.
Custom PC
Ryzen 9 5950X
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme
128GB DDR4 3600mhz
EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra Gaming
Samsung 980 Pro 512GB m.2
Samsung 960 PRO 2TB m.2 x2

I use the VP2770 which is the viewsonic 27" 2560x1440. Picked that one over the pb278q by asus because it doesn't use pwm lighting and it has better input lag then the asus. I have used both and the viewsonic beats it everywhere imo. If you play alot of fps games for games with fast motion the Viewsonic will handle it better. I like the stand better and it doesn't suffer with alot of backlight bleeding like the asus does. The one nice thing about the asus is the price, but i paid more for something I think is better.
