While we're at it (even though this is the forum for this), may I ask for suggestions for potential builds?
I'm looking for a mid-range system, not an outrageous one, in the price range of $1,000 - $1,500. The game that I play the most is the MMO, City of Heroes/City of Villains, which isn't the most graphic intensive game out there. Easy future upgrades is a plus. Thanks for all your help! |

No problem! Check out this configuration: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=71074 It's listed for $1,485, right next to your budget as well. I have basically configured you a SLI-READY machine. That means you have the potential to add a second identical video card to create a dual video card setup. This dual video card setup (SLI) will work togeather to provide a boost in your gaming performance.
It also has Intel's new line of 1333Mhz FSB processors and a NVIDIA 8 series graphic card for Direct X 10 support.
This machine will be perfect for those games and has the capability for future upgrades without any problems. The power supply, motherboard, and video card will support doing a SLI setup in the future with no problem.
What do you think?

That looks like a really good build. Thanks Alex! I think if I would make some minor changes to trim out the price (like the floppy disk drive).
Is there a big speed difference between 667 mhz RAM vs. 800 mhz ram? |

When your on a budget like yours, the performance isn't worth the extra price. Don't' worry about the ram speed so much. If you can invest in some more cash, then go for it, if not, don't worry about it. Definitely make some tweaks to the configuration that you see fit, example, case lighting, floppy drive, etc.
Let us know if you need anything else!

You won't notice a difference in the ram speed when playing a game so it's not worth the extra money imo.
I would recommend getting the E6850 or Q6600 for performance and future proof. It's pretty cheap now since the intel price cut =) |

Ohh ok! Hmm, okay one more question, is there a huge difference between the nvidia 8800 gt 320 mb and the 640 mb? Is the 640 mb worth the extra cash?

If your on a tight budget then no, there isn't a big difference in actual performance between the two unless you really like maxing out the graphic settings to take up all of that 640MB memory on that card.

Okay, with all of your helpful suggestions, I've narrowed it down to this build:
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/twistervalueintel01.asp It's $1529, which is close enough to my budget. I went with the Quad Core Intel chip instead, is that the next big thing for CPU's? |

By reading the tech forums Quad core is the future for sure. The questions is how far in the future? I have not seen very many games or apps coming out this year that will take advantage of the Quad Core. You will have a rig that will be a capable machine for many years.

Larry your right, but, newer and newer games are starting to take advantage of this raw power. |

Is there a noticeable performance difference between the 2.4 quad and the 3.0 core 2 duo? Or is the quad just a untapped "smart buy" which will see its power unleashed in the future?

It depends on what you will be doing. If it's gaming, the 3.0ghz would be a better choice. If you use software that utilizes 4 quads, the slower quad would be a smarter choice. |
