Topic: Looking to 5+ box in wow Posted: 19 Jan 2009 at 8:07pm |
Looked through many, many builds of computer brands and talked to a ton of people about this. Looking to spend around 2,500 and im the kind of guy who does not know tons about computers but I want to have done my homework befor I spend a ton of money.
some things I expect out of it is of course to run 5+ instances of wow at one time. I want it to have a monitor and be able to do the normal computer stuff as well as high end gaming. key points in running wow is lots of ram, good video card and quad core since its multitasking at its extreme. I have the basic idea of what I need but im looking for people who have done the same thing and tested it ect. Thanks for any help and after going through all the computer brands it looks like this will most likely be where I get my computer from. |

If you spend your money any place else you are wasting it.
however you want the system described and a monitor for under 2500? thats not gonna happen. 1. what size monitor do you want? 2. you are better off getting your monitor from another place, you would save money that way. |

Well if you want to overclock your CPU, you need to change your cooling solution to atleast the CoolerMaster V8 CPU cooler. Stock HSF will not suffice.
I'm sure DST4ME can come up with a good build. But if you are wanting to include your monitor you're going to have to up your budget.

Perhaps I was not clear, if you spend your money any place else you are wasting your money, all PCs are not the same, just because you found a cheaper place does not mean you have found a duplicate PC that is here.
but its your money, you spend it where you please, I however didn't just find this place, I searched all the other computer places and this is the best, I can send you to a few places that are cheaper, but I can't assure you that in a few months you won't think it was a big mistake buying from there, with DS however I can assure you that you won't ever think it was a mistake, which is why I would spend my money here and recommend it to anybody. now as for your build, give me your ticket number and let me tell you what I think it should be and again buy your monitor from newegg or some place like that and you will save money Edited by DST4ME - 19 Jan 2009 at 8:47pm |

Yes I'm an ex dell xps customer myself, but these systems are at a whole different level and DS builds them at a great price. DS will bent over back-wards to make sure you are happy, you can just ask around the forum from their customers
let me go see you build |

i custom-made a system from dell's website (just to see what they had to offer). i then found digital storm and created a better system for less money (which i have now bought). dell would have been a waste of my money.
you can find a place to buy a computer like that for under $2500?? tell me the place; i'm interested. because i have searched the web for hours, and looked at dozens of other sites, and i have not found one that can match digital storm in quality, customer service, pricing, and a host of issues. tell me the place!

the place is called doghouse systems, but so far this place seems to be much better.
thats a great build dst4me just have a few questions (pritty stuipid when it comes to computers thats why im asking) Wouldnt you want more ram 12gb to run more instances of a game. Also the video card is a bit much wow is kinda a old game and I think a bit cheaper of a video card would run wow just as good wouldnt you think and with more ram less of a video card it would make the price about the same and be able to run more instances? also is h2o stage 2 better than air stage 2 as far as cooling. Since its only 75 bucks more and would make the computer parts last longer would it be better? also dont know much about overclocking so would it be worth it to overclock the vid card and ram also? and I have been on the multiboxing forums for wow and most people say you can get a computer to run 5 instances of wow with monitor for like 1,000 bucks just because its a old game and you can 5 box with a dual core. I only said 2,500$ range cause I want it to be a little more up to date and maybe run 10 instances but I dont know because the only people who can do that is people who link up 5+ computers. and thanks so much man you have been very helpfull. In this case I would advise against the 295, the main reason being WoW does not utilize SLI or dual cards. You would be much better with a 285 if all you play is WoW. Also check out these two links on issues with the 295 in wow, im sure there is tons of others just like it.
6gigs is more then enough for WoW, 12gigs would be overkill.
Air vs liquid debate is a crapshoot, Ive seen/heard people get 4.2ghz oc's on air and people end up only getting 3.8 on liquid.. Its all about the quality of your processor and the components used in either setup.
Having them overclock the gpu's is ok, but its pretty easy just to do it yourself...
Download Evga precision and just be sensible when increasing the clocks.
1,000$ 5 WoW client multi-boxing pc would have a tough time running that many clients imo..Quad-core would be alot better for multi-tasking processes like opening up 5 wow clients.
just my 2 cents, take it or leave it Edited by Dsnewb210 - 19 Jan 2009 at 11:32pm |

6GB will be more then enough if you gonna go LC go frostbit or don't bother, the v8 will do a great job, even tho LC is better the v8 is right there. no don't bother with OCing the ram or GPU, the ram I have listed is perfect and we can OC the GPUs ourselves if needed. I have a very simple guide for it I gave you the best PC your money could buy, as a side effect this PC is strong enough to run what ever you throw at it. tho wow might not use sli, for the monitor size you have, for other games you will want a dual GPU or 2 GPUs. give me your ticket number for the new build. I can tell you right now 1.5TB HDD is a horrible idea for the OS. Edited by DST4ME - 20 Jan 2009 at 12:18am |

ya it will bring the price down to 2687 and you will get another 150 off of that. and you can add another 260 when ever you need it, you can go upto 3 x 260+ on this system:
here you go Ticket# 232561 --- Price: $2687 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: 6GB DDR3 1600MHz OCZ Platinum Edition (High-Performance) Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: DVD-ROM/CD-ROM (DVD Reader 16x / CD Reader 40x) Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260+ 896MB (216 Streams) (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Red) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: Acer 22 inch (Widescreen) (Black) (High-Performance Gaming Display) Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty |

That build that DST4ME posted last should be great for what you want. I 5 box WoW now on a dual core 2.66 4gig ram and 8800gtx video card. It gets laggy at times and i have the graphics turned down on 4 of the instances. But very doable. That last build above is awesome. I am looking to upgrade as well and I am thinking on the 295 card, why? Because I likes it.
Happy computing

bleh ok so now I put up my build on multi boxing forums and someone said the only problem they see is the hard drive. They say it will end up bottlenecking the computer.
Dunno if its true or not but would I be better off going with 300gb veloci raptor even though it will bump my price up an extra 200 bucks? Is it worth price or not worth it at all? |

The person advising you is an idiot, HDD performance has to do to with app startup and OS boot up, yes the veloci will help but to say it will bottleneck, thats just dumb.
worth it yes but when you have the money, in other words its not that big of deal. |

No need to thank me, you are actually helping me, by allowing me to assist you, you have made my day, so let me just say it way my pleasure.
first you need to post the pics and OC specs then tell us how many it can run, if it can't run 5 then we can add more ram but I doubt if you need it, but its nice to know if needed you can always add more |

no it does not increase performance, it makes managing easy and also if your OS drive ever goes down you won't lose your personal/media files/data.
it also keeps the OS HDD light and easy to back/clone so when the OS HDD does go down you have a clone and lose nothing. |

5 boxing is pretty funny, I remember during season 1 or 2 there was a 5 shaman arena team and the guy would just spam his macros and win every match. |
