Last year, I was looking into buying a new rig, and had decided I would purchase from DS based on their stellar reviews and word-of-mouth reputation. I especially liked the fact that I could custom-design the rig I wanted.
 
I've come into a decent amount of money finally (being divorced now can change priorities LOL) and am ready to pull the trigger.  However, it appears my ability to customize a rig has been significantly hampered.
 
Am I missing something obvious?  Am I no longer to fully design the rig I want? Am I stuck with purchasing a pre-built machine?

It depends:

While it is true that DS has some computers that come as prebuilt machines (the ODE and the Marauder), several others (such as the Epoch, Dreadnought, Valkyrie, Syndicate, Enix, Hailstorm, Slade, and Aventum) are highly customizable. Even on prebuilt models, you can still swap out parts (I believe that it costs the price difference in parts plus fifty dollars).

However, depending on how much money you came into, the system you could get would change (The lowest level customizable system is the Epoch, and the highest level is the Aventum). Customizable systems can range anywhere from less than $1500 to more than $10000, whereas prebuilt configurations tend to cap off at about $2500.

Hi USAFIDMT,

You are still able to do a full custom build limited only by your imagination and budget. Let us know your budget, monitor resolution and we can probably give you a build that will get you started in the right direction. If you want to do it all your self then that is OK too.

When using the configurator be sure to hit the "Expert Mode" button, or you will only see less than 50% of all Hardware options...
Only if you choose a custom config, though...

Not that anyone cares (lol) but I went ahead and purchased the ODE V2 Level 2 about 30 minutes ago.  It'll be a grand improvement over my rig that recently died (I built it in 2004 from Newegg components...it still had an AGP slot if that tells you anything!).

I'm not even getting my hopes up of seeing it until the first week of July.  If it gets to Oklahoma before then, it'll be a pleasant surprise.
 
The best part of this is I'll FINALLY get to play a huge backlog of games I've bought on Steam but never was able to successfully run.
 
I will post pics and a short review though.

Their website said the computer was out for delivery as of this morning. It's 7pm MST now. I called FedEx and now they're telling me the damn shipment isnt even in OKC yet.

How the hell do you scan a package as being in OKC when it's not?

Ugh. So pissed right now at them...

The ineptitude of some people in customer service simply amazes me.  All it does is amplify the level of stellar service I've received from Digital Storm exponentially.
 
The FedEx monkey on the phone didn't know what he was talking about.  The rig was in fact out for delivery, and it finally arrived last night at 7:35 CST.
