Hey all,

I just purchased my new Aventum PC! I am really excited. I went all out on this one and cant wait to use it. Feel free to leave any comments/feedback on it. BTW this will be my 2nd rig that I have purchased from DS, my first one was about 3 years ago and it still is going pretty good.

Sweet.  Would really like to see pixs when you get it. 
 
Something to consider - Add a high capacity HDD for data.  It will save wear and tear on your SSD and those CAD files will get quite large depending on how much 3D modeling you do.

Due to the way heat exhausts from both ends of the GTX 690, I would think twice about going air cooled with those cards.  A more detailed discussion of the card can be found here: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=17569.
 
I think watercooling is the way to go with dual GPU cards.  The extra heat they dump into the case could play H-E-double hockey sticks LOL with the mobo chips and RAM.  I'm under the impression that the Aventum case was designed explicitly for watercooling, so it makes me wonder just how effective it is for cycling air.  The best air-cooled case is the HAF X.
 
I know DS does lots of testing to make sure your specific configuration is reliable, but I'd be surprised if they've done an Aventum quad GPU setup like yours.  It's just too new.  I'm guessing your unit would be the pathfinder.
 
If you have your heart set on the quad GPU system (it looks awesome BTW Awesome), I'd consider waiting until the waterblocks are available.

I think Alex said that the Aventum was not available with air cooling, LC only. Did DS say they could give you Air cooling. If they did that might be a mistake. Maybe Alex will let us know.

I don't think I would want two 680s (One from each 690) pumping their heat into the case. Especially two that are going to be OC. If it was my system I would not OC the two 690s with their mechanical design and air cooled.

You may regret getting the OS boost. They delete or turn off things that you won't use in the OS. The problem is they don't know what you personally will want to use. I would get the system and set it up with the software you want and then tweak the OS. If they turn off something you want to use it might be hard to figure out how to get it back.

I note that you have a "very, very warm room" for the computer. Your GPUs will be cooled by the air in the room and if it is too warm the GPUs will run hot. You can't cool GPUs with very, very warm air.

That will be a killer system after the problems are worked out.

Yea, I decided to go with 3x680s LC instead of the 2 690s. I will prob do a upgrade few months down the road once the 690s become LC. If I get 3 loops for the 3 680s would it be a problem changing those out for the 2 690s LC? Would I be able to do that myself? Regarding the OS Boost I will take your word for it and try to see if they can change it, tho I will be importing my data from my old ssd into this one. I saw Alex post in my topic earlier and didn't seem to have any objection to air cooling but I really want LC GPUs so that convinced me.

Hmm, I guess I would say the room gets to 80 deg during summer. The room has no windows but I run a portable AC that brings it down to 70 deg or so.

In regards to the Aventum, it's a ultra high-end chassis exclusively for exotic liquid cooling or our Cryo-TEC.

Generally speaking, most LC systems use either one or two loops.  If it's one loop then you have a reservoir, pump, and heat exchanger (radiator) handling the cooling for the CPU/GPU and possibly the mobo chipset.  If it's two loops then the GPU is split off with an additional rad, res and pump.  I know the Aventum is highly customizable, but even with that beast it seems unlikely to sport four separate loops with all that associated hardware.

I'm betting there are two loops in the Aventum (I'm sure Alex will straighten me out if I'm wrong).  In that case it's relatively easy to go from tri-SLI (three cards) to quad-SLI (two cards).  If DS uses quick disconnect fittings at card 1 inlet and card 3 outlet, then it's even easier.  Spillage with the quick disconnects is minimal if not nonexistent.  It's just like replacing an air cooled card except you have the extra steps of refilling the loop and verifying the proper flow.

If it's a single loop everything I said above still applies.

Thx BF3Addict for the feedback on the LC system. I hope it is 2 loops as I will def be going for LC GPUs from now on and hoping that switching them out is as easy as you describe. I'm hoping I get the evga waterblock instead of the koolance one as the evga one has a glowy led on the waterblock that looks really nice .

If anyone that has an Avantum already can chime in on how the LC system works, it would be great!

I will def post pics and a youtube video once I get it. Hopefully within a month or so lol.

Another option is to put your build on hold to wait for the GTX 690 water blocks.
 
If you install the 690s and water blocks yourself and something goes wrong related to your modifications, this will cause warranty issues with DS.
 
You are building a top of the line system.  I wouldn't mess with warrenty issues.  But I also understand not wanting to wait.  Some times patience pays off in the long run.

Since the GTX 6XX series has been released I've been scrubbing the 'net to get as much info as I can on the nVidia GK104/GK110 Kepler chips.  Looks like GK110 based cards won't be out until Q4 this year or later, so from what I've seen I've chosen the evga GTX 680 Hydro Copper Classified (watercooled, 4GB VRAM) as my next card.  Three of them, to be exact.  The deciding factor was that cool evga LED.  Have you seen the SLI bridges too?  Ultra cool looking!

The Aventum uses two loops. One loop is dedicated to the processor, the other loop is for the video cards (and chipset if ordered).

Question: If I buy a 4th GTX 480 Hydro Cooper to run quad sli liquid cooled, would I be able to hook it up to the dual loop LC system without any modifications?

You can add it to the loop with no issue, you'll need probably additional tubing, connectors, and fluid.

We do have EVGA HydroCopper units in stock, and we also have GTX 680's where we install full coverage blocks, it all depends on availability and inventory.

 
I just noticed that you said your room is very, very warm, the Cryo-TEC system will not work with your room then as it uses the room temperature to cool the hot side of the TEC modules which generate a opposite cold temperature that is pumped to the CPU.

Hi shawn,

I just wanted to comment about your power supply. You may not be able to add the fourth 680 GPU with the 1200w PS. With the 680's lower power requirements you might make it but there won't be a lot of over head. PS are not as efficient at full load or near full load.
