I was just curious if DS is going to turnover some of the cooling options.  Currently DS offers the Noctua NH-14 when the NH-15 has been out for a bit.  Also, Corsair has just updated a number of their coolers like H110 to the H110i GT.  Both of these newer versions seem to be superior to the legacy coolers.

Also, nice to see DS bring back the Haf-X.  This now has me thinking if I should change my case choice again.  What do people think Corsair 540 vs. Coolermaster Haf-X?

Haf-X.    Not a big surprise for those here for a couple of years.

Air 540 is nice though and is a different look for those wanting a change from the typical tower cases.

Yeah - the Haf-X was initially my first choice.  I've been trying to find a comparison between the performance of the two...

I've been trying to get a DS logo cover for my H100i, which they had told me they could get me a while back. The latest response that I got, which was right before the public announcement of the H100i GTX, was that they are all out of the DS branded covers and do not know if they will get any more in. I suspect they are just running down the stock of the H110 and H100i coolers they have before they put up the new coolers as an option. Heck, they still are offering the H100 coolers in their configurator.

I thought that too but the Noctua NH-15 was about a year ago so I'm hoping that by April or so we get the H110i is a choice.  Although it may take me longer to figure out what darn case I want now that the Haf-X is back.  I finally settled on the Air 540 after they got rid of the Haf-X and now it's back - lol!!

We do try to offer the latest cooling options but sometimes we have to wait until we clear inventory of older models. I'll work with the team on adding the newer models that you've mentioned soon. If you would like to purchase a system with an item we don't offer, we can always special order it for you, just let our sales team know.

The HAF-X was added becauase we got some supply and from popular demand. Not sure how long we will keep that for sale.

@, can you send me an email directly, I'll be more than happy to help "[email protected]"

Are they in stock? Can my order be changed to use newer version? Or would that be a delay?

Hi michaeljhuman, we just added them so we do not have them in stock yet. Most likely within the next week or so. I see that your order is in Stage 3, if we have begun building it already, which it looks like, we might have to charge you a re-build fee to take apart and re-stock the cooler, etc...

Ah, no need to change my build just for the new version. They are not outrageously expensive, so I can consider it as a future toy. Thanks for the response.

Wow - very cool news.  I'll go update my configuration now I think.  I wasn't really complaining but more of an observation.  I like DS but if I was new and looking for a cutting edge system and saw previous generation coolers, it may (or may not) work against the company.  Hopefully my post didn't come across as obnoxious!

Now I'm still trying to figure which case to get - the HAF-X or the AIR 540.  I'm not finding anywhere which compares the two head to head unfortunately...

If you can't move the NH-D14s send them all my way, bprat will handle shipping.

(Though I am sure he will use the same shipping I used to send that Twinkie I sent 1/2 a year ago. Hahaha).

Glad to see the HAF-X is back.

From the links AW777 posted it seems the 540 is more aesthetically pleasing (forums) but the HAF-X is just a whisker hair cooler (review).

Looks like it's one of those decisions that you get to do what you like and won't be wrong either way.

Hey Arkansas - thanks very much for that.  I actually saw the first link on the EVGA forum but the second with some analysis with both cases is very helpful.  I'm much obliged!

Instead of seeing the Haf-X back I would rather see an all black Apollo, 760T, case.

That Apollo is a sharp case.  Definitely a keeper also.

I think I'm going to go with the Air 540 which is weird because I was all gung ho initially for the HAF-X.  Now my question is do I go with the 2 - 140mm fans or 3 - 120mm fans.  Normally I'd go with the 2 as it will be quieter but would the 3 be better cooling for the video cards as it'll probably cover more area.

I wouldn't be surprised if DS has experimented around with these cases through work with their noise reduction/suppression packages. Maybe Nav could give you some pointers on which case in which configuration would be best for noise and cooling.

Hi Dax Doomslayer,

If I wanted really great air cooling I would be looking at the Velox case. Fans: 3x 140mm front intake fans, 2x 140mm top, 1x 140mm motherboard tray, 2x 140mm right side door, 1x 120mm rear exhaust fan.

If someone wants the best in air cooling, the Velox like Frank said. For the best in quality and air before Velox, the Haf-x. For something other than the standard tower and still real nice air, the Air 540.

If I was buying right now, probably the Air 540. The Hafx is tops in quality and quiet and Velox gets the air moving, but Air 540 is different with little sacrifice. Testing shows stock a bit noisy but that's an easy fix.

This is my opinion today. Tomorrow it might change.

Velox vs Hafx vs Air540 is tough. Just my thoughts.

Thanks frank & bprat.  I pretty much agree with you bprat.  I really like the idea of the cube and not the tower for this build so I think I've decided on the Air 540.  Excellent cooling with a little 'flair'.  When you say 'easy fix' for the noise, is that swapping out the fans?  Also, would you think a 3 fan front configuration be a better set up than a 2 fan front configuration especially with multiple video cards (x3)?

3 fans i think will be more suitable than 2, you can always change out the fans to Noctua for more airflow.

By 'easy fix' I was referring to just tweaking the rpm with Bios, FanXpert, etc. My experience is adjusting fans down to 60-70% of their max has little impact on cooling while dropping the noise a fair amount.

I would stick with the 2x140mm,at least initially. If you look at the fan mounts with front filter removed, the 2x 140 gives a wider flow across the middle 3/4 where the mobo and cards are. The 3x120mm give you more flow higher and lower in the case, but that could just cause turbulence where the top rad and bottom drives are.

This could be me over thinking it. But, sometimes there's more to cooling than just more airflow.

What would be great is if someone, like DS, did an actual test.

Good thread - I'm about to be the owner of an AIR 540 and a HafX. I'll say that in 4 years, my HafX has never failed to keep it's cool; it really is a beast and I'm expecting my Air 540 to be a great successor -- I fell in love with the design at first sight...
