i7 965 extreme and FSX

Any FlightSim folks here using the i7 965 extreme with FSX loaded with
add-ons....Like FSDream Team KJFK,KORD,PMDG 747X,ASV6,Ultimate TerrainX,Lots of AI traffic etc....
 
I'd like to know how the i7 extreme handles this load. My current Core 2 Duo x6800 OC'd at 3.6 can only do 7FPS at KORD with PMDG 747X/MD-11 or Feelthere737/A320  even...and that is with NO AI traffic...pathetic performance not even usable. The x6800 handles FS2004 very nicely though.....

FSX sees an average of 25-30% performance gain clock per clock with i7 when compared to Core 2 architecture.  These results show a 21% to 50% gain at equal clock speeds.   

Here's one benchmark of sorts:
i7 920 @ 2.8 vs. q9550 @ 2.83
* All sliders full max except traffic, which is zeroed out
* 4GB ram & ATI 4850 video in both
* In B-737 cockpit, full wide view, sittling on default Runway at krno with fair wx in mid-day
 
q9550= average of 27 fps
i7 920= average of 40 fps
 
Most games don't see much improvement with Nehalem, but it looks like those who predicted that MSFS X would benefit were absolutely right.
 
 
Just did a FRAPs test on a local flight over Seattle in F-18 at 1500 ft & 300 knots over the same route. Nehalem still rules but the margin was a bit lower this time:
 
Q9550 @2.83Ghz= 17fps average in fraps
i7 920 @ 2.8 Ghz= 21 fps average in fraps
 
That's a 23% increase in frame rate for i7, which isn't as good as the 50% I saw sitting on the runway, but lots of tests will be necessary to bracket the performance difference.
 
The i7 ran much smoother, though, and produced a considerably-better flight experience. I suspect the Nehalem will gain ground at higher Ghz, due to better memory handling. I hope to have mine up to 3.8Ghz later in week to do more tests

I guess we'll never get a silver bullet CPU for any current version of flightsim.
 
But I would expect the I7 965 extreme OC'd on water to over 4GHZ, would
give me more then my current 7 FPS on my X6800 OC'd to 3.8 on air
 
I have ordered a maxed out I7 965 based system from DS and would like to think
I will see a big difference (probably due the money I spent!) At least make FSX usable with some addons..... but not perfect
 
Once I get my new machine and get FSX up and running I will post here with the results. Of course these would just be my *personal* results and in no way intended to be any kind of official benchmark, but if someone was in a similar situation going from  Core 2 X6800 to an I7 965 EX it will give them an idea of what they can expect before they spend $$$$$$$$ on a new system :-) :-)

Well, I got my new machine......(see specs in previous)
 
Fired up FSX....
 
Performance is WORSE than my 2 year old X6800 extreme???????????
 
I'm seeing 6-7 FPS freeflight in the UltraLight over SeatlleSleepySleepySleepy
Not even using any Addons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
How can this be?????????
 
I can hardly breath rigtht now...after spending all this money...
 
How could this leave the DS labs with FSX running at 6 FPS?
 
I paid for the "install FSX and make sure it's configured"......how could
someone see it running at 6 FPS and  think that is acceptable??
 
Sorry I'm freaking out right now......
 
There must be something wrong, how can an i7 965 Extreme OC'd to 3.95 on water only get 6FPS?? That just does not make any sense...
 
Any help from anyone...ideas...anything....
 
Sorry for the public display of FSX crushing me into the ground :-(

Eeek! There is clearly something wrong here. I don't play FSX, so I'm no expert though. I would contact DS. I bet they'll help you diagnose the problem.

Yes I'm still around.
 
I have been reinstalling and tweaking FSX.
 
I now have it to this point:
 
15 FPS and not smooth in the following situation:
 
FSDreamTeam KORD
PMDG 747 at gate C18 (looking towards the city)
REX
ASX
UTX
GEX
 
That is only a few FPS better than my C2D. Not worth thousands of dollars for an upgrade.
 
Good news is the DS box is awesome!! It performs in all other benchmarks as you would expect and is very fast.
 
But for FSX it's just not cutting it :-(
 
How are you getting 30FPS (and smooth?)
 
Can you duplicate my situation at FSDream/PMDG 747 atKORD and see what FPS you get?
 
I just can't understand why it is so choppy for me....
 
I am using the tweaks and guidleines from NickN here:
 
 
Also for the record, I know that getting high FPS is NOT the goal. It's getting a smooth running SIM. Mine is NOT smooth, it's choppy. If it were smooth at 12FPS I'd be happy. But when you are on approach to KORD and it turns into a slide show at 15 FPS...it is not usable in my opinion.
 
I just do not know how people are even using GSX with these add-ons, you would think with my machine I would at least be somewhat smooth...
 
I'm still tweaking and hoping for something to go my way.....
 
I'm really regerting going from FS2004 to FSX, it's been a total performance
dissappointment on the highest end machine I could but :-(
 
Would be real interested in anyome recreating my situation as described above at KORD and reporting your FPS and smoothnes..

Forgot to add to that add-on list:
 
My Traffic 5.2 at 50 %
 
If I have no traffic ... I gain a few FPS but that's all.
