According to danjw1 in this thread: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/dilemma-between-vanquish-4-or-virtue-2-tidf22910/ ... we read:

The one caveat, is that I think most of us assume you are gaming at 1080p. If you want higher resolutions than that, the CPU could become a bottleneck.

As everybody knows I have, and am quite pleased with, a Vanquish II Ultimate. I am running it currently on an LG Flatron E2041 that I picked up very reasonably a few years ago. (HD+ 16:9 20" DVI-D)

Two things recently happened to affect my relationship with this monitor: 1) it developed a thin red vertical line, from light at the top to brightest about 3" from the bottom, then reaching all the way down. It's very very annoying.

Then I find out, number 2) ... apparently this monitor is not 1080.

So, I'm researching into new monitors and have decided that my baseline resolution is going to be 1440... until I read danjw1's quote referenced above. I'm not sure where to go with all this. Am I being foolish to expect 1440 with the 4590 CPU in the Vanquish Ultimate? Will it, indeed, "bottleneck"?

No problem with either of your setups. Cpu bottleneck is more game dependant than resolution of your monitor. Some games are intense cpu heavy and might cause bottleneck but usually not noticeable with a modern cpu.   A cpu, in most cases, has the same workload whether it's 1080p or 1440p. Same calculations are being done for in game physics, etc. It's the gpu load that increases as resolution increases, the rendering of the larger screen falling on the card.

Bottleneck isnt uncommon and most of us probably have it from time to time but it's not crippling or a slow down for most.

Sometimes we relate tri-sli video cards with multi monitor as a possible cpu bottleneck because at that level the games are running on Ultra with texture mods, etc or apps with settings maxed out and that could fall on the cpu more.

Hi Meller... Bottlenecking is when you pop the cap on a bottle of beer, tip it into your mouth and it flows out way too slow.   Basically, ones mouth has greater gulping performance than the bottle's neck can keep up with.   Hahaha

Hope this helps. Big%20Smile
