Budget:
i am comfortable spending 2500 to 3500 Expectations: not really into upgrading computers, so i do look for higher end hardware to hold me for years. Usage: mostly online gaming, wow, guild wars 2, diablo 3, and on occasions with the right amount a coffee a wicked game of solitare Special Needs: i am a little concerned about noise level, not so sure how to judge how loud the machine is with just the little red bar under the picture during selection, also i am no expert by any means on power supply and mother board options, that would be great if someone could pass along some knowledge, also, ....sorry lol....do these motherboards come with the wifi already built in ? or is that a seperate purchase. and any suggestions on the monitor would be great, i never had an asus or a samsung and was wondering what people prefer.. i have been stalking digital storm for three months looking at configs and today the coffee, weather, off of work, stars lined up seems to point too JUST DO IT ALREADY! That build is really more than you need for gaming. The X79 mobo and 3930k chip are for those that need the quad channel ram and 6 core processor for video editing, rendering, 3D modeling, etc. For gaming it's not needed. Take a look at this config. The 680 is only about 5-10% better in gaming and for a 24" monitor and your gaming you'll never see the difference. Changed Vortex cooler to the Noctua D14. It's a air cooler that is tops in reliability and for that cpu will cool it great and it's quiet. The 240mm cooler you put in is also very good, but air coolers have very little to go wrong. Along with the D14, I put in stage 2 overclocking. It's a boost in gaming and the D14 will handle it no problem. This motherboard does have WiFi built in. For a monitor alot of us game on the Dell UltraSharp U2312HM. An IPS monitor that games great. There are other very good IPS monitors out there also. See what you think and good luck. thanks bprat22! i didnt realize the processor was for things like that, that was a big help. i was also doing research on the dell monitors, seems people do enjoy gaming on that particular monitor. i was still going to keep the video card at the 680, i dont know if its the latest and greatest with me , or just something i feel might last me a little longer down the road not sure.. i did change the motherboard to the one you suggested, thank you. now with all of this, the power supply will be more then enough correct?
and to people who own the cooler master haf series, how is the noise level? i have a computer now and it is very silent and i love it, my computer before this one sounded like a truck and was very annoying. thank you in advance |

The power supply is very good. These gaming pcs are not silent. The case fans do make some fan noise and the gpu fans also add to it. If you compare this to a box store pc with a single fan in the back then this is noisier. The HafX's larger fans move slower and do make less noise then other cases with multiple small fans.

Just to add to what bprat22 said, my HAF X is very quiet. At least the case fans themselves. I do get quite a bit of noise from the GPU fans when I'm playing BF3. If you're not pushing the GPU's hard then the noise level will be low but not silent. I'm using three gtx 570's. The newer cards are reportedly a bit quieter, especially the 680's. |

ok i was concerned with airflow and noise but alot of these machines have great cooling and fans, and i am not one to go crazy on overclocking, taking these suggestions into consideration i came up wit this. wondering if this is a good build? the only thing i dont know about is the power supply. if its too much or too little. i will not be putting in a 2nd graphic card . thanks

That power supply will handle this rig with no problem. My suggestion would be, if you go with this case I would change the cpu cooler to the Vortex 240mm rad. That case has no top fans where the heat builds and the 240mm rad would mount to the top to give it better air flow. I beleve the 120 mm rad mounts to the back but you can ask DS. It's a great build and best of luck.
