Windows 7 Professional



I'll be getting all of these parts for around $1,600, and was just wondering if they would all play well together (or, how I would check that before ordering the parts).

they will work.
I would not get a GTX 470, get the GTX 570.
TX series from corsair is poor.
The SSD is ok, Intel has a 120Gb drive now, and that would be a better choice over the long haul.
How well the components work together will be up to the person tweaking the BIOS. Big%20Smile
I would get a sandy bridge setup, save some $, and have a faster, more powerful setup.
what CPU cooler?

I'm getting the 470 cause its recommended for video editing as one of the best economy cards that still delivers on all my editing needs.  That part is pretty much locked in, but is MSI the best brand to get?

I'm not intending to overclock at all, as this is my first time building a rig and would like to keep it simple.  I'm not going for Sandy Bridge cause I want RAM to be a priority and want a Tri Channel setup, with the option of 24gbs (it is needed for video editing, I've been told).

I was totally unaware that I need a CPU cooler -- are those hard to install.


My main concern is buying all these parts and making sure they will be compatible...

The GTX 570 would still be a better bet.
 Brand wise I would get one with the best warranty, they are all basically the same otherwise.
 
Sandy bridge has better memory performance, and can do 32Gb of RAM. but the i7 950 is still very good for your application, just SB is a bit better.
CPU will come with a stock cooler, just on a hot running 950 i7 it runs pretty warm, even stock. SB with stock cooler runs a lot cooler.

Jus to chime in here, I was gonna say the same thing last night but I had something come up so I never got a chance to respond, but everything justin is saying is correct, if you want the best band for your buck, do what he says, go SB it has the best performance for you, cpu-wise and ram-wise, intel is what you want in ssd, if you want your ssd to have the best performance over time, and reliability.

Out of curiusity why where you told that 470 was best for video editing?

whatever the 470 can do, the 570 can do and has less heat and powerusage.

as brands I like evga if the avatar didn't give it away, but justin is right they are pretty much all the same, personally I have had better experience with evga.

start with 12GB of ram and then see if you need more, you can always easily add more ram and as justin said you can go to 32GB if need with SB.

with EVGA, you have better warranty and can use their Step Up program

yes but evga costs more b/c of the step up program.

the step up program is as far as i know like a trade in for gpus. you get the next one for a lil cheaper as logn as you upgrade frequently.

personally for aftermarket boards i like evga, msi and asus but evga will give you the least hassle with support
