In this thread: http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/vanquish-ii-temps-skyrim-tidf22339/ I posted:

.. and I did not worry about it. That is until Meller pointed out that this was an incredibly bad thing. I know very little of comp temps and was relying on the expertise of DS knowing that they would not let a system out that was overheating. I had figured that this was normal. (Thanks Meller for pointing this out.)

So, I ran some tests. First, after 6 hour shut down I fired up the machine, started HWMonitor immediately and scanned temps. I got this:

As you can see, the Mainboard temp is 119°C at idle while everything else, as far as I know, is nominal.

So, I dl'd "Speccy" to verify. (I like that Speccy is from the same folks who brought us CCleaner.) Speccy told a different story with the mobo:

So, while I'm no longer concerned about the heat of the mobo, I am fairly concerned as to why HWMonitor would give such a radically wrong reading.

Any hints, ideas or suggestions?

HWMONITOR is good for cpu core and gpu temps. Everything else I ignore because of things like this. Some of those other temps nobody can explain what they are or they just aren't right.   Good idea checking the temp with another program.   Way to go, because that is the best advice any of us could give.

You're good to go. Enjoy.

Thanks for the advice. (again.)

I'm still going to keep a weather eye on both for awhile.

Seems like the smart thing to do. 119 Celsius will vaporize water, and steam and electronics do not mix well.

True.. I use HWMonitor to monitor mine. It's a simple fact that it's so hard to create a program to be 100% accurate with all the different hardware out there.

To me, it looks like a simple miscommunication between the chipset sensor and HWM.

I am very relieved that your temps are back down to normal readings. You truly had me alarmed with 120 degree mobo readings. Things were going to start melting and frying.
