I'd look around for an X79 mobo that supports CrossFire...I'm really surprised your current one doesn't support CrossFire...there are 40-lanes of PCI-e 3.0 from the processor and it is usually SLI that isn't support if anything is missing. Your case supports ATX, E-ATX, and ATX-XL, so pretty much any board you select should fit.

Unfortunately, I have a Gigabyte GA-X79-UP4 and blew the board and Corsair 850w PSU. I submitted a ticket to Gigabyte and they responded yesterday and said the GA-X79-UP4 does not support the new R9-290x crossover via PCIe bus.

I can only go with people who have setup the new crossover with the R9-290x because the motherboard manufacturers are not noting if the boards support this new crossover connectivity (non crossover bridge connector).

Yeah, its called XDMA and has the two cards in CF talking through the PCie and not a seperate bridge.  I believe it started with the 290x cards.

I would think most mobo's do support it, at least after a AMD Catalyst driver update, but here's an article where they did test 2x 295x in quad. CF.   They used the MSIX79A GD45 plus mobo.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-295x2-crossfire-performance,3808.html

Here's the board.....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130681

Most boards don't mention the feature but I think it's understood but I can't say for sure.

Hope this helps out.  Good Luck. Big%20Smile

Double check my work Hahaha  before you spend any money.

Your 3820k won't fit in the version 3 lga 2011. Way too many motherboards to know them all so maybe others know something of that one.

Thank you. I overlooked the version 3 in the 2011 processor.

It seems the regular 2011 boards are starting to become very extinct. The possibility of locating these boards supporting the PCIe lanes are becoming a problem. I just visited MSI website and looked at their VGA compatibility chart for their gaming and oc boards. The charts state they only support 1 R9-290x for multi-graphics technology.

I will need the help of the community to located a 2011 board that supports 2 R9-290x cards.

I believe the Asus Rampage 4 Black Edition with its lga2011 for your chip will support XDMA.    I'm sure other Asus boards also do but...

Here's another link where they did cf the 290x with that board.

Again, double check their website. I'm on a tablet and hunting around can be a pain.

Amazon and TigerDirect have them.

Thank you once again. I checked the vendor website and did some research on the board. The board is a favorite for cross firing R9-290x on a 2011 board. You're right, there are some still available on Amazon and Tiger.

I am ordering the board now. Thank you.
