the difference starts at 1900 x 1200 for most games.
I'm still waiting for you to show us how to use it, I'm sure sarah is dying to know.
As I mentioned blizzard says that wow does not support sli not because of any inherent problems from sli but becasue when wow came out there was no sli, so its not a matter of sli problems, its a matter it just plain old does not support sli.
still waiting on your directions on how to make wow use sli, funny cause 99% if the people here and on wow forums swear that they can't use sli.

You have to remember that the 5870 is a single card. Just like justin.kerr said, you need to compare apples to apples.
You want to compare the GTX 295? Fine, a GTX 275 is half of a GTX295.
Compare the 5870 vs GTX 275 for a better comparison. If you want to compare the 5870vs the GTX295 wait for 5870X2 it's only fair.
I'm not a fanboy of either side, I want whats best for my money. I will admit, and things have not changed for awhile.
If you are going strictly for performance/fps, go with Nvidia they will always be on top.
If you want image quality and a card with a little less performance, go with ATI.

we were just discussing the 5870 performance, then I stated that I was disappointed that the 5870 did not beat the 295 since the 300gt will, then people started saying that the 5870 does beat the 295 and here we are, so I'm not comparing single cards and etc, I'm just showing that it does not beat the 295.
haveing said that at the end of the day its price vs performance, and as I stated 5870 has the best price vs performance but before oct that will change, since 2 x 275 beats the 5870, nvidia will drop the price on 275 and then for the same price range you can get 2 x 275 for better performance, they will do this to compete with ati till the 300gt line comes out and then at that point nvidia will have the most powerful single card also.
right now the price differenc between 2 x 275 and 5870 is only around $30, that will change soon.
again none of this is to say that the 5870 is not a powerful signle card, cause it is, I was just expecting more.

no problems or anything, they are due out jan-feb just like the 280 and 295 gtx.
I will bet any money you like that come jan - feb nvidia will have the fastest card out.
Nvidia from the beginning said that it would be out in H1 of 2010 so I'm not sure who has been waiting, we have all talked about it for a while that for sure.
for me for a $30 difference I rather go with 2 x 275 for higher performance, for games that don't support sli tho the 5870 would be better for now till nvidia drops their card.
I just read that the 300gt is taped out and should be out around nov - dec for the first round of cards.
ya those internal sli/cf cards coming out in the next 5 months from both sides are gonna be very powerful.

The PC wasn't the only thing plugged into the wall, correct? So, how much juice do you think the PC alone consumed for the month?

I was reading one of the reviews and I can't remember which one exactly but it was stated that the Nvidia GT300 series is pretty much going to wipe the floor up with ATI.
as DST stated, 2010 will be a great year for GPU's and us as the consumers =). Can't wait to see what happens.

I am still glad that I got the 295 when I did. It seems to still be top of the line even months after I bought it. Since I am running 1920x1200 I think the 295 will just be fine for the future.
I guess the DX11 is something that I will just not be able to enjoy unless that can be an add on some day but I am not sure if that can be done.

to enjoy Dx11 you will need a dx11 card, but I think your 295 should do you fine for the next 2 years and by that time there will be a new version of dx and more powerful cards, you could upgrade then if you see the need.

DX10 has not even hit its true potential. I think there is only a total of 33 games that use DX10.
It's going to be awhile until game developers even start using DX11 so your 295 should last you quite a long time.

This by far was a very interesting topic to read.I think ATI put out a nice line of game cards for a good price.Im waiting on nvidia because i know nvidia will wipe the floor with ati performance wise. The thing that really scares me is that we all know the 300 series will be very expensive.Alot more then what ati is asking. So my question is at what point in time will the 300 series come down to a more reasonable(affordable)price?Right now i have dual gtx 275's in sli and im very pleased with the performance i get with a 1920/1080 screen rez at 23 inches .When the time comes i will probally go sli again with the cheaper of the 300 series but not neccasarily the cheapest of the bunch.I live in an apartment with limited space so i cant get a bigger desk for my pc setup then i already have. And i can only fit a 23 inch monitor on my desk.My question is will they make 23 inch monitors for next year with alot more rez then what i have now?Because it only makes sence to me that if im going to get new game cards that will be twice as good(possably better then twice as good)that i should invest in a monitor with way better rez and have the over all gaming pleasure expieriance.

I would wait a little bit after the 300 series comes out. Depending on how well they perform, ATI will adjust their prices lower to compete with Nvidia's performance at which point Nvidia will have to drop their prices to compete with ATI.
If Nvidia is charging say $400 for the middle class card and ATI drops the price of the 5870 to $300 Nvidia is going to have to drop to stay in competiton otherwise everyone will just buy ATI because its price/performance.

I don't think the prices are gonna be that much different, yes it probably will be a little higher but it will also be more powerful.

Let's not count our chickens before they're hatched. Obviously the 300 series is gonna be big, but you don't know what ATI has in store either. This was just the first of the new cards, most likely pushed out so that they could take advantage of the holiday season.
Don't forget that ATI used to be better than nvidia also. Nothing is set in stone with this sort of stuff, so no matter how good nvidias e-peen tastes we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves.

ATI was good before amd took them, obviously nvidia will respond with better cards, thats a given based on recent past history, and the cards coming out in nov - dec are just gonna be the first round also, Nvidia has made it very clear that it wants to have the highest performance in the market, it does now and I have no reason to think or see that it won't in 2010, specially after seeing how the 5870 is performing.

no he is a cool guy, I think once I figured out the difference of why anadtech had 5870 doing better was because of the aa and af settings, there was no reason to argue anymore, but justin is a cool guy, I would not think he would ever lie about things like that, he wasn't in this case, it was the aa and af settings.

I don't know what you felt I lied about. ? I let people know when the card would be available 2 ,months in advance, I was off a day or 2? I said that ATI was aiming for GTX 295 performance, but until the drivers mature, performance will be slightly less, on average. I said that the price would be $349.00 but there will be price gouging at first.
I gave out a lot of "inside" info to try to help people decide on what is coming, but if you want exact dates, performance numbers months in advance, then I just won't post any future info, because it is impossible.
None of that is inaccurate. Plus if you count Dx11 games, lol only one available for testing now, but the 5870 takes a commanding lead. Also I look at the potential in a card, I know that the majority do not look at it that way, so my view may be skewed a bit... The 5870 has shown a solid 38% improvement with overclocking, the GTX 295 cannot achieve that do to poor voltage regs...Unless you want to de-solder half the board and replace the crap parts. lol which some have..
As for the Nvidia 300, I cannot give any "inside" info, because I don't know anymore than what I have said in other posts here, but I doubt that in Dx9 and 10 games that the 380 will double the 285, so the 300 series is going to be very powerful, with better frame rates than the 5870, and edging out the 5890.
I also want to state that I am have no preference as to ATI or Nvidia, I buy the cards that seem like the best for me. 9 Nvidia cards in my house, and 4 ATI currently. lol
By the way, finally got my wifes rig rolling, 3D vantage score, with initial settings put her #67, that is going up against the big boys, with liquid nitrogen. Hers is just water, not pushed yet, hope to get into the top 50's in the world. I have had many top ten scores, and 1 #1. Also Extreme systems use to be the number one overclocking team in the world, and I was in the top 10, at one time.. lol But as of late my wife and I are going to be re-locating, so we are more focusing on that part of our life, and not just benchmarking..
So if anyone feels I lied, I would like to know what it is that I lied about... I just gave out the info that I heard.

looks like it, both of us work out of our home offices, but for her to get the promotion she wants, she has to be closer to the South, so, looking like Southlake Texas will be our new home... We are trying to get the house ready for sale, painting, new flooring, all the little misc stuff...lol

Decent, house prices are about 5% lower than 2 years ago, but as long as the home is priced right, with no problems they are still selling quick, except for the 500K and up, they are sluggish here.

Maximum PC rated this card the best single video card available. That's why I chose it for my system(due to be delivered this week). Maximum PC is not GOD but I have come to trust their opinions.

Have any of you actually seen tessaltion in person? I saw it. I've only run one ATI board in my life but my new system is coming with the 5870, but only one 5870. If Nvidia comes out and beats ATI in the spring, I'll probably switch but for now I really want tessalation.
