Any suggestions for a 27" monitor for gaming for around $300 or so?

DST you seem to be the monitor expert here so I'm directing this at you. I just ordered an ODE lvl 4 so it will be running 2 of the 7970's. My question is will that be enough to run a dell u3011 on high settings or should I go with a smaller lower res monitor?

DST hasn't been around lately so I'll give it a go. The ODE 4 will play just fine on the 30" Dell at it's native resolution of 2560x1600. The cf 7970's replace the previous ODE 4 of tri-sli 570 1.2GB cards and have a similar performance according to Alex.

Could someone help me;
Comp specs, I52500k Nvidia 560ti 8gig of ram.
Looking to buy one of these dell monitors, biggest size my current vid card can handle. Seems like everyone is recommending the UltraSharp Monitors?
My current monitor is a DELL about 6 years old 1600 X 1200, would it be worth upgrading?
Recommendations?
Thanks,!

Hi wkroll,
You night get more help if you start your own thread. Sometimes an add on like this gets lost in all the post.
If you are operating at 1600 x 1200 then I think you will see a big inprovement in a new monitor. Especially if you go for one of the Dell Ultra Sharps. Take a look at the 2312HM. You can get it for less than $300 and has an IPS screen. 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Now that I've got my Marauder LVL 3 I need a new monitor. After reading through this thread I'm leaning towards a Dell ultra sharp.
My current monitor is a Gateway 21" 1680x1050. My rig has a Radeon HD 7850. I'd like to step up to 1920x1080. I'm thinking the U2212HM or U2312HM will be a nice upgrade.
Would I be able to push WoW and Diablo 3 at max settings on either of those monitors?
Also are IPS monitors really worth the extra $$ over a regular monitor?Ld

HI Doxiedad,
The 7850 is a pretty good GPU that exceeds the 560Ti and catches the 570 in some games. As long as you stay away from Crysis Warhead you will be good with your 7850. With some games you might have to turn down your AA settings to keep your FPS up.
I have never seen any TN monitor that has as good of a picture as an IPS monitor. If it is in your budget I would go for the 2312HM. If not, then go for the 2212HM and save a few bucks. An IPS monitor will have better color and detail. Both of the Dell monitors have 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Frank,
Thanks for the help. Are all IPS monitors the same or is there something that makes the Dell ones better? I found one locally and was wondering how it compared to the Ultrasharps. It's a LG IPS235V
Thanks.

Never mind the LG doesn't look like a good bet. So now it to decide between the 2212HM, 2312HM, or 2412M, or possibly the Asus VH242H?

Doxiedad, all of these lower cost IPS monitors use the same LG screens. I have a NEC Multisync 23" and it uses the same LG screen as DELL. I am not sure who builds the Dell monitors. The difference between the lower cost IPS monitors are the electronics. I believe Dell sells the most of this monitors and has a history of good performance. Go to Amazon and Newegg and read the reviews of the different IPS monitors. You will find that some have more problems than others. Most complaints of IPS monitors are by people who do a lot of color work and have special requirements, not gamers.
I can't recommend any IPS monitor over others as buying a monitor is some what of a crap shoot. There is always a chance that any monitor might have some small problem. Judging from the good results that DS members have with the DELL, I think it is a good choice. But I don't think it is any better than my NEC.

Hi belaflek73,
I don't know anything about that monitor. If I was buying a 3D monitor then I would be looking at the Asus VG236H 120Hz 3D Vision LCD Monitor. It is $40 cheaper on Amazon. We do have some 3D users on the forum and they would have a better idea than I do. I am not a fan of 3D.
