Hello, I currently have a marauder 3 that was purchased about 2 years ago and am looking into upgrading.

I Currently have
3570k
asus p8z77-v lx
corsair gs 600

I'm interested in the gtx 760 or the 770, are these compatible and does it make any difference if you switch from radeon to gefore? Also, I have about 200 dollars in gamestop credit, what would your opinion be on purchasing(they carry both) a card from them?

I only possess a passing knowledge when it comes to pcs so any advice or suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi epiceric81... Either card should work fine with your motherboard and power supply. Going from a Radeon to GeForce is no problem.

I have never bought a video card from Game stop , but if it's a name brand like EVGA, etc it's covered by the manufacturer.

Hope this helps.

One thing to be aware of when switching from AMD to NVIDIA or vice versa is the need to completely purge your system of all old graphics cards drivers before installing the drivers on your new card. It can be surprisingly hard to clear them out fully, and if any remnants remain they can cause serious mischief for system stability.

Hopefully that didn't come off too spooky - people make the switch all the time just fine, but it's good to be aware of during the switching process.

Yup, either of those cards will work perfectly fine! As Counsel stated, make sure you get rid of all your previous AMD drivers before installing the NVIDIA card as it can cause serious stability issues.

Ive decided to go with the gtx 760 superclock. After doing some more research on the actual process of installing this thing when it comes I had another question.

Do i need to worry about updating the actual motherboard? I read that sometimes new features can be added or support for new cards added later?

You should have no issues with that graphics card and your current motherboard.

my card has arrived overnight even though I had standard shipping selected so score one for shipping miracles I guess.

I hate to keep asking a thousand questions but as I get ready to instill this tomorrow I've got a few more for you.

What is the best way to remove all my old AMD drivers before installing the Nvidia. I've read some guides online about using something called driver sweeper or driver fusion, is this the correct one to use or is there another method that's better.

Judging from what ive read online everyone seems to have their own way of doing this. Is there a good step by step guide you would recommend? Or is the material included with card a could enough manual to go by?

Just trying to get my ducks in a row, thanks again.

edit- oops one more thing. it says to uninstall the current drivers from the device manager. do I do that as well as the normal uninstall from the "add/remove programs" screen or no?

You're right, you can use add/remove in Device Manager to get rid of the AMD Control Panel. I use CCleaner, free, to do the same thing in their Tool, Uninstall tab. It does a good job. That should do it but you can also use CCleaner registry cleaner to check for any remnants of AMD left over. Caution with anything registry..just double check what is selected.

Good luck.

This might be over before it starts.

Just opened the box and removed the plastic case the card is in only to find 3 of these little pieces rattling around inside. they look like gold colored squares, very small. looks like they should be on the circuit board or whatever you call it underneath the fans.

Is this thing damaged out of box or am I still ok?

Does it look like this?...........

http://www.digitalstormonline.com/forums/uploads/6454/VidecardCapacitor.JPG

If so, send it back.     I believe its a capacitor, but either way, not good.  I wouldn't even plug it in.

If not like that, gives us a pic.

Good Luck.

I can tell just by your picture it's definitely 3 of those.

Well... after all that build up this is a bit a wet noodle.

Thanks for all the help but it looks like this is on hold for a bit

ok, the replacement card is here and I have one last question (super serious this time).

I read your suppose to touch a non painted metal surface to ground yourself when working with pc parts. problem is marauder case is military green like an ammo box al over. Any idea on which part of the case will work? I have a static wristband that has a clamp on the one end if that helps.

I'm betting my response is a little late and you already installed the card.

The wrist strap is the way to go. I've used one for years, both personal and professional. Any metal will work, not just the case itself.

Hope the new card works great and let us know.

I've run into a problem, I started receiving a "NVidia driver # stopped working and was recovered" error. It's happened in games primarily but also once just browsing online. Sometimes I'm able to play for 10 minutes and sometimes an hour. Some google searches lead me to believe this is at least somewhat common but no one seems to have a solution, though I must have read 50 theories on how to fix it.

I'e tried a windows fix it that was suppose to change the registry timeout or something and I've tried changing from "adaptive" power to "max performance" neither fixed it. Though they may have made it worse since now when it occurs the game will freeze accompanied by some colored boxes on the screen(artifacting?) and the sound looping wherever the crash occurs requiring me to hit the reset button on the tower and restart as opposed to just the game crashing to desktop with the driver error.

Any insight into this issue would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi epiceric81... Sorry to hear.    Did you uninstall the old AMD drivers/Control Center?

Try a different display driver from GeForce. Most likely that's the problem.

Reseat the gtx 760 and check all the connections to it and the mobo in case you bumped a harness.

Reseat your ram sticks.

Download and run Malwarebytes , free, to check for spyware that can mess with your card or tax the psu.

Color artifacts are usually a good indicator the card is defective but drivers, psu, connections can also cause it.

Good luck and let us know.
