So I made this config after reading other topics on pc builds on this forum. But I am not sure if it is overkill. X99 Motherboard is not a requirement but since this pc will be my daily machine for the next couple of years, I thought it would be nice to have it. If you guys share your thoughts with me I would be much appreciated. And also, I selected Asus rog PG278Q and Corsair K70. I read PG278Q is the best monitor money can buy for gaming but it is too expensive for my budget. I don't want a 4K monitor, 2560 x 1440 resolution is enough for me. Do you guys know any other 2560 x 1440 monitors especially made for gaming? Thank you all.

5820 good choice for 6 core CPU
Mobo quality remains to be seen ( I have a DS on order with one, will know more once I get to use it)

Power supply good for one GPU - should have no issues if what people tell me is true ( they tell me EVGA Supernova is good)

GPU one of the best choices when running single card.
970 is a better buy, but with some games you might appreciate the benefit of the 980, especially modern FPS

I ordered 512 SSD I think, but 256 is fine for boot drive. Just make sure apps/photos/music goto HDD

I can't comment on accessories :)

I could comment more on Velox, but mine is waiting on the cases coming in - should be this month

My first thought is - do you really need the DDR4 memory?

If the answer is yes - good config.

The ROG G-sync monitor is super for gaming but you might be giving up som in the true colors department. Whether this would be a great choice will depend on how much you get into photo processing and editing. Think of it as the difference between a TN monitor and an IPS monitor - TN has better colors but is locked at 60 Mhz refresh and IPS has better speeds with higher refresh up to 144 Mhz.

If affordable kick up to a 1200W p/s and SLI GTX 980s. I say this because I'm assuming you'll be having photoshop and other applications open concerning the photography and it will give better performance in skyrim and other highly graphics intensive games. For wow, diablo 2 (not 3) and starcraft you'd be good for now.

Also, I'd agree on the 512 SSD based on what you say you will be doing.

With this you shouldn't have to think about upgrading for 5-6 years at least.

Thank you michaeljhuman and Pacesetter for your responses. I will consider 512 SSD but for SLI 980 I think I'll wait on those. I really don't know how DDR4 memorry affects gaming and overall performance but I'll stick with them. Velox seems to showcase itself with it's hardline tubing cooler but I don't know anyone has that configed. Is DS H20 cooling more effective than Corsair H110 ?

DDR4 is unlikely to make significant increases to gaming performance

Anandtech recently posted an excellent review of DDR4 (with DDR3 comparisons). ExtremeTech followed up with further detail.

I can not speak about water cooling   but I do have the Velox Case with the $99 fan upgrade Rampage MOBO and 2 980s in SLI.

I chose the case because it is one of the best ventilated cases I have seen ever for an air cooled system which is what I wanted. I thought long and hard about Water Cooling all or part of my system and decided if I went with the Velox , using water cooling would be a waste of what I consider this case's best feature and that is it's ventilation and fan placement.

It is still cool here in Texas and the ultimate test as to whether the unit will stay cool under load when the Texas summers ramp heat up to a 100+ is still to come.

But on comparison to my old tower case and GPU - a GTX 485 I can see the difference even now.. my old computer used to sound like an airplane taking off and would heat the room so much that I never had to use my central heat for the computer room which was the warmest room in the whole house all year long.. in the winter that was okay but in summer it was brutal.

This machine even with all fans going max level is quiet, and cool. I am hoping the summer will not pose any challenge .

I would leave it Air cooled it will save you some money that you can put to other improvements, then again if you heart is set on water cooling it is still a great case... hence one reason I think they are always on backorder.. but they are well worth the wait in my opinion.. a great case for any build in my opinion

The only draw back I see is I would not place these units on the floor not unless you want to clean it out frequently., esp if you have any pets in the home.
