Dual, sli gtx 680 beat Titan by about 20% in gaming.

Is exactly what I currently have (4GB -w- Back plate version's) and is very capable.I currently have it running Dual Monitors of which 1 is a Dell U3014 2560x1600 (main) and an Asus 27" 1920x1080 (secondary) and it handles both fantastically. waiting on the new system (3x Titain's) to arrive so I can add more monitors Possibly 2 more of the Dell's) as well as a Wacom Cintiq 24HD. If you can fit it into your build the GTX780's in SLI would offer you so much more as they are based on the Keplar GK110 chipset as apposed to the previous version GK104 found in the 680's, 770's and 760's. Also the 700 series benefits from the newer bio's architecture and are more efficient and run cooler than their predecessor's.

One other dumb question. The Titan 6GB...is this like having three 2gb video cards?

Not a dumb question... actually a good one a lot might need to know.

If you mean 3x 2gb cards in tri-sli, bridged together, then no.   Video cards in sli or tri-sli only have the vram of a single card.  Vram doesn't stack.. So, a tri-sli 2gb cards is still 2gb vram.  Titan, being a single gpu does have 6gb .

Hope this helps.

VRAM doesn't add up. It's whatever 1 card has as each card has the same info stored in it. If you have 1, 2, 3 or 4 cards and each card has 2GB VRAM, then you have 2GB VRAM. The Titan is a single GPU with 6GB of VRAM so you get 6GB of VRAM no matter how many of them you are running in SLI mode.

If you're looking at it from a strictly vram perspective, then the Titan has 3x the vram of a, for example, gtx 770 2gb card.   But from a gaming performance side of it, a sli, 2x gtx 770 at 2Gb vram will give better gaming on most single monitors.  sli, gtx 780 with its 3gb per card is even better.  Vram is important but tells only a small part of the story.

A 6gb vram Titan card isn't equal in gaming to two 780's at 3gb each.  Not even close.

For games that don't utilize sli correctly, then the titan beats anything, but for games that do sli correctly, titan gets beat by sli.

So what we need is based on what we want to do and if that task supports sli or not, but also do I have use for sli or not too. For example sli 780 or single titan for a 20" monitor is pure waste.

IMHO instead of asking sli or titan, tell us your monitor's native res and what kinds of games you want to max out on that monitor and then we can tell you exactly what kind of power you need and if you even have use for sli.

whats the native res?

for around 1900 x 1200 sli 780/680 should do the trick, I think crysis is the main one that needs it to be above 60 fps.

This is the monitor I am looking at

Acer Black 27'' 6ms (GTG) Widescreen LED Monitor

I really really really want to get dual 780's! If it's not possible..the single 690 or titan will do.

btw...I have a dell 22" (bought it in 2009...this be ok?)

The "6ms" response time is bs. never pay attention to that.

what is the model of the 27"?

You are probably better off with sli 780.

if you are talking about this one

then ya sli 780 will give you 60fps with highest settings in games like bf3 and crysis.

but that is an lg monitor and not acer, which tho I'm not an lg fan, lg is better than acer.

Ok..this really sucks! just found out my wife bought another laptop from DS, which took away the "extra" i was going to save for a gaming rig! So, I had to go locally to build, at least i am still apart of the DS family! It's not much, but it will do!

I have an opportunity to buy a 690 now. my main concern is SLI mode for COD: Ghost. Have they fixed that issues as of yet?

I just like the 690 because its a bit faster that the titan?

any thought?

Personally, I wouldn't go with the 690. You'll have VRAM issues down the road. Stick with your GTX 780 (I'm going by your signature).

you guys are funny... this was posted back in Aug lol

BUT

I was "thinking" about the 690 just because warranty will allow me an upgrade or an equivalent part. I'm trying to talk them into getting me the Titan (the one that came out about a year ago).

I have another post on this somewhere that bprat commented on :-)
