you said, "what ever that can fold the fastest at the time, which right now is the 280 GTX"
Are you Graphic cards the only thing that effect how fast you can fold?
Thats what im asking.

I see, sorry about that.
there are basically 3 different clients for PC.
1. regular client (low point) low CPU
2. SMP client (high points) will put all cores to 100%, high CPU
3. GPU client (high points) will put GPU to work, with very very very little CPU usage
now I run the SMP clients and the GPU clients so both the CPU and GPU are working like a mule all the time.
the speed of the SMP client depends on the speed of the CPU
the speed of the GPU clients depends on the shader of GPU

What is folding? Folding is a worldwide
distributed computing effort conducted by Stanford University to
understand how proteins assemble themselves. The real world
applications of this research includes potential cures for diseases
such as Alzheimer's, cancer, and Parkinson's. Nearly everyone's life
has been touched by someone who has had one of these diseases or one of
the many other diseases this research is aiming to cure. For more
information, please see Stanford's Folding@Home website.

Hopefully DSO has been stress testing i7 systems looking for problems.
I am afraid that I am going to get a i7 next week. I have been struggling with a 6 year old Dell for waaaay to long and I just can't wait a few months.
I will get an extend warranty to cover my bases.
Holly molly just 2 days and a wake up.

Each person is different, 999 for CPU is much cheaper then $1400 for a qx9770, I will price the x58 mombo when it actually comes out, but right off the bat just on the CPU, I'm saving few hundred dollars, for me that equals a great deal already.
But like I said, different strokes for different folks

Core i7 965 will retail for ~$1100 to $1400 depending on retailer. posted by skyr
999 is what they pay when they buy a bunch of them is what I understand

$999 is what retailers pay for quantities of 1000.
You wouldn't sell them for $999 when you bought them for $999. Especially on launch day...

what ever 1100, that still saves a few hundred, first when it comes out its gonna be the most expensive ofcourse.
but look at QX9770, when it came out for the first month it was like $1700 retail, within one month it went to 1500 to 1600, now you can get it for about 1300 to 1400 depending, and thats from April of this year

For the record, I hope DS is making more than $100 per processor they sell, especially at the highest clock such as the one we are talking about. I would expect these to be at least $1250+ per from a vendor, which includes installation, etc. Just so people aren't surprised when the actual prices hit...

I would suspect the 9770 will drop quite a bit after the new releases.

i dont think the 9770 will drop in price. 1. 775 motherboards can use it. 775 motherboards cant use i7. the 9770 is proven technology the i7 isnt (therefore a lot of people can upgrade to it without replacing their entire system). 2. triple channel ddr3 is brand new and a lot of people wont trust it. 3. i have heard of a lot of people that are scared of memory voltage limit. i think the 9770 will drop after a couple of months but not at first.

I wouldnt count on prices dropping much at all. Intel already issued a price drop on all LGA 775 socket CPU's. Its all up to the retailer. Long as people are still buying them they wont drop.
