It takes a lot of time and monitering to get a chip at its full potential which DS connot spend on every computer if they want to make any money so they will put an overclock in that they are pretty sure will work with minimal tweaking. Ive spent probably over 48 hours not including stress test times and vantage scores getting my cpu overclocked just right with minimal voltage increases. Id start studding the chip now so your ready although waiting a while to push it may be a good idea so you can see problems that other overclockers are coming across.

a q9550, with a gtx 280 will play games easily for at least 3-4 more years..
The things you guys are mentioning are so high above the overkill mark its not even funny.
Overkill is good though!

Well, for the record my point of view is value.
When i bought the GTO, i was under the impression that it would be fitted with technology that was going to play the games im looking to play for at LEAST 3 years.
Which, after reviewing the benchmarks, etc will do that.
Sure i wont be getting BLEEDING edge FPS levels, but the FPS i will be getting sure beats the hell out of a HP Pavillion!

I agree 100% but that is your point of view.
a car is a car but there is a different between my Toyota and my Benz.
they are both very good cars IMO, but I would not call my Benz overkill.

Lol hey man.. the benz is a statement..
a computer is for computing, if the program is being processed at a level in which the human eye cant make out obvious flaws it has technically fulfilled its purpose. Right?
Currently when i play something the CPU isnt even being used 50%! Now a i7 would be even more "LOL". Prolly what, 20% usage!
I understand though, having the BEST is always awesome.
So if you have the cash, or dont already have a quad, or a duo get the i7 DUH! But if you already have a Quad, or a sick Duo im sure you wont really need to worry about upping.

I still say i7 is so new it's in it's experimental stage. A year later, they'll get the kinks out thanks to those who buy the first ones! I prefer reliability over bragging rights to claim I was one of the first to jump on a not-ready-for-consumer product. It just seems to be rushed considering all the new "innovations" that intel is stuffing into the i7 / x58 platform. Then throw in triple channel memory?... they're basically making three major changes in concept of their systems and a bunch of smaller ones all in one go.

I'm sure they have a good reason for that, also even I wouldn't order one the same day, I like to sit back and see what others have to say, and how other's systems does before I go ahead. I'm also hoping maybe i7 Skulltrail appears before the end of the year.

I'm waiting for Haswell. Might upgrade at Sandybridge / Ivybridge if a totally awesome game needs more cpu power.
Hopefully they also decide on one stupid socket by than.

I just found some good news!
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/overclocking-core-i7,2063.html
From what im getting the Overspeed Protection will be a feature you can turn off, so you can potentially OC the 920 and 940 further than i had thought. =]
Am I understanding this correctly?

Even if i set a date i would order it before then. Im sick of this machine(dell bleh). haha. I'll most likely order around Nov. 20-23rd. Really it all depends when DS allows us to buy an i7 system from them. Hopefully the day of release or soon after.
My plans for a 4.0GHz+ i7 940 will be pretty easy to do it seems. This should make for some amazing benchmarks.

what ever that can fold the fastest at the time, which right now is the 280 GTX, ya it will probably cost a bit but there are others out there with even pricier then what this would be

not sure what the 4870x2 can do but without its own drivers I don't trust it.
aside from that card, nvidia cards fold 50% faster then ati cards.
checking around looks like the 4870x2 and the 280 gtx fold the same amount pretty much.

Interesting. +1 to Nvidia for folding faster(as far as we know)
Only the GPU's have anything to do with folding?
