its a Nikon D50 with a 18-200MM vr-II lens. they dont make the d50 anymore so if you want something comparable go with the d40. The lens makes a huge difference also |

I'm a complete camera newb, (like I was with computers till I took it upon myself to study.)
What are some general things I need to know about cameras? Edit:If there's something above the D50 I'll just go with the one above it then lol. Edited by Axel Daemon - 11 Nov 2008 at 12:43am |

i would honestly go for the 60 and possibly later on and work yourself up to something more advanced. You dont want something with to many options so u dont get to caught up. Start with a entry level SLR, play around with it and learn about the what all the stuff means is how i like to do it. Believe it or not the cameras they make now(SLR) in program automatic will take better pics then most people can take on fully manual |

Hey if I can stick a Nikon D60 with the lens you have, that might be the best first purchase I'll make. We need it too, this family has none, and it's all taking pictures with cellphones kind of thing lol.

DST4ME, If you are in the market for a Camcorder still, If you are going to use it extensively I would suggest the Sony HDRXR520V. I have the original one, the Sony HDR-SR8...this is truly a great camcorder that has night vision if need be. Mine is only 100gigs but the new one has 240gig. You will never run out of HD movies...hehe and it takes pretty good pictures. My takes ok pictures, but I will have to live with it. |

I'm looking at the D90 I can get one for like $500 and then a 18-200mm vr lens will cover it all. The D40, D50 and D60 are all great cameras also you can just tell from the pics

This is the cheapest D90 i could find. Anyone know why this is so cheap compared to other places. http://soniccameras.com/catalog/product_info.php?redirect&origin=http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=nikon+d90+price&aq=1&oq=Nikon+D90&products_id=5488 |

a quick google search and reseller rating shows that they are scammers.
if its too good to be true then it probably is. |

My pleasure, if there is one rule you can follow on the net when buying its: if its too good to be true then it probably is
next time do a quick check on the seller, google first, to see other people responses, then check bbb and reseller rating site. |

That's why when you're doing a lowest price filter, Look at the re.sell.er ra-tings too heh.
Edit: Why was "re seller ratings" being censored? Edited by Axel Daemon - 20 May 2009 at 3:07pm |
