Need a little more info...
What is the resolution on the montiors? You mention graphics work...will the monitors be professional monitors with 10-bit color depth, etc.? What graphics programs will you be using? And data crunching...is this GPGPU accelerated? Is this custom code or a commercial software platform? |

Okay, you do use some compute intensive applications that can use significant memory bandwidth. In the configuration I made, I selected the i7-5930K processor (you can benefit from the extra cores in the i7-5960X processor, I'll leave it up to you whether the extra cost is worth it or not) and 32GB of high-performance memory (there is an option for 64GB for really big image/video editing; again, whether the cost is worth it to you or not). The motherboard will be able to support all of this and has expandability for a lot more. Likewise with the power supply. For graphics duty, you are one of the few whom I would recommend a Titan video card for, if you feel you can utilize the extra VRAM with some of you compute applications and if you are dealing with very high-res imagery (there are rumors of a Titan 2 coming out within the next few months...there have been some tid-bits of prototype parts leaked, but nothing official from NVIDIA as of yet). No overclocking of either the CPU or GPU for the most stable operation; you should have more than enough powre to drive two 1080p monitors. For storage, I'm giving you a good amount of working file space with a 512GB SSD and a RAID 1 redundant pair of 3TB enterprise HDDs with excellent mean time between failure, so you have good data protection. As for the chassis, I selected the least expensive one that fits a full-size ATX board...this is more of a personal choice, so feel free to change it to your liking.

Hi Jmc1,
I find it hard to build a system for you as your requirements could be all over the place. You have listed a lot of programs you might use. You may or may not need a lot of ram according to what programs you are using. Some of the software you listed is still 32 bit and that limits how much memory you can access. I think if you are using Python or Oracle don't you use their cloud software for the heavy computing? I think you would benefit from more computing power than graphic power. A 5960X CPU may be a good choice for you but I don't know. I would start with a single 980 GPU and then if you need more GPU power you can install another 980. Do you have a good feel of what programs you might use the most. If I knew I was going to use Python or Oracle real heavy I would talk to them about what you need in a computer. Give us a little more information and we can build you a great system that will last for years. Frank |

Thanks for config suggestion.
FrankW, thanks for your reply. Yes, I use cloud services for data programs. Not so for graphics programs. I also do moderate gaming-mostly first person shooting. |

Hi Jmc1,
The configuration above by no-name is a solid build. How ever I am not a fan of the Titan due to its dual GPUs on a single card. With the Titan if one side of the unit fails you have to replace the whole card. With two single units you only have to replace the one that failed. There is a big cost difference when you are out of warranty. The additional Vram may be helpful but if you need more Vram maybe you should be looking at a workstation? It all depends how much and type of graphics you do. Frank |

Just a slight correction.... The Titan Black is a single gpu card. The Titan Z is the dual gpu card.
