Hello everyone, I've put a few posts about 980Ms, now I was hoping for some other advice. I read some of the guides and didn't feel any more clear than before. I'll try to not sound like an idiot.
I want to OC my CPU if I can, but I don't know what kind of motherboard is used in my computer. Anyone know what the Krypton uses (I bought it in September)? I checked out the "build-a-computer" part under "chassis" and couldn't find it. If my motherboard can support it then I can probably figure out the actual process. I'm just worried about damaging my baby. Other than that, any advice on OCing my CPU, GPU or memory would be greatly appreciated by this lost soul. Thanks! Rig: DS Krypton Level III CPU: Intel i7 4810MQ (Quadcore, 6Mb cache, supposedly OCs to 3.80 GHZ) GPU: Nvidia Geforcce 880M |

That cpu isn't overclocked. The 3.8 is the Turbo boost built into the chip. I personally wouldn't overclock either the cpu or gpu. The laptops have their hands full with cooling as is without adding the extra stress on the cooling system. Desktops have much more headroom than laptops.

Sorry more noobishness from me; So the CPU will automatically run up to 3.8 according to the demands of any particular moment?

Yes. If you pull up task manager actually, you'll see it constantly changing depending on your have your power options set up.
For example, on my desktop, I have my minimum power set to 5% with max set to 100%. So it randomly goes from like 1ghz up to 4.4+ghz. SO you'res will high 3.8ghz and maintain it for as long as the power draw/work load calls for it. It's an auto overclock. There are ways we can set it (IE set minimum power to 100% and max to 100%) and it'll stay at 3.8ghz 24/7... but no point really. Best to let it idle down to maintain heat and battery when not it's not needed to run at 100%. Long story short. It'll auto change to 3.8ghz when you're gaming or doing anything that pushes the cpu more than just facebooking. |

I blame Alex. Why do you think he's not getting a Christmas card this year?

Hey Alex
First of all, I see that you're a DS employee and have to say I love my computer and brag about it to all my friends. Built and shipped quickly and a solid machine. A+ BBB deserved. What, if any, can you tell me about the future availability of the 980M? I see that it's available for preorder in the new Kryptons and from other retailers but Meller clued me in to them not being available as individual components for a while. In short: Will DS ever sell them as individual components? Or would I need to send my Krypton in to get one? |

Cam ... Alex is not just ~A~ DS employee... He's ~THE~ DS employee... If that's too cryptic, let's just say that he get's his hands on most of the stuff that happens in that little building in Fremont, CA.

Hahaha It's good to know I'm asking the right person then! I'm all about my Krypton and the idea of bringing in a new mobile GPU is making me light headed. I see he's a busy guy around the forum so I hope he has time to answer.

Hi CamTheMan,
Yes, when the GTX 980M is officially available to us in early November, we should be able to get the graphics card on its own as well. In terms of the price, we do not know yet and won't until then. If you want to know just contact us about it in early November. |
