Boot Time with SSD

I bought my DS System last year, it runs great but boot up time was not the best for SSD. I have mid-range performance Dell XPS 15 with running Intel 330 Series 180GB SSD sadly only running at SATA II although boot time is still much faster than my DS desktop computer. It takes about 40 sec. on my desktop to boot to my desktop versus 16 sec. on my laptop computer. I found this is quite odd considering my desktop have much higher spec. compare to my laptop yet somehow boot up time is so much slower than my laptop.

My Desktop spec:

CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
System Memory: 8GB Dual-Channel DDR3 1600MHz
Boot Drive: 2x Intel 510 Series 250GB SSD (SATA III) (RAID 0)
Data Drive: Seagate 2TB Barracuda XT HDD
Data Drive #2: Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200 HDD
Optical Drive: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x)
Video Card: EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB
Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio
Windows OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition)

My Laptop spec:

it takes my desktop 45 secs

addendum:

Here's a fun observation, I am a newbie so i do not know what is counted as "boot time"

but take a look at this video where they boast a 11 sec boot time:

however, for me, I count the "boot time" as when you press the start button to when you see your desktop icons and everything WITHOUT any further loading/hourclass going on.

So if you look, they turned the computer on approx on the 2 second mark on the video, and I do not see their windows screen until the 40 secs mark,

so i am not sure where / how they are counting the 11 secs

any pros please advise.

I am curious because I'd like to see what is says, as it factors in a lot of variables that other programs do not. From there we can start looking at what some of the possible issues could be, to see about getting you into a "normal" zone.

There was an older thread on boot times awhile back, I posted my old laptops time, it was around 156 seconds or so I believe.

The oldest computer I own (that still works) is my rig from 95, I wonder what it can do..

Yeah, I feel the same way you do. When I heard someone said it takes 20 second to boot up his computer I am thinking from the time I press power button and not after POST screen and RAID Controller screen.

Base on these results I got, My DS gaming PC boot up faster than my entry-level Core i3 PC by only 8 sec. This is rather disappointing, I think my biggest disadvantage here is that SSD has no support from TRIM since it is running in RAID 0, Let us hope the next version of Intel SRT will finally provided TRIM support for SSD in RAID 0.

Actually I thought my start-up programs and number of my USB devices might slow down the boot time so I ran number of test by disabling all the start-up programs. Oddly enough it didn't helped at all. I don't know if BootRacer not reading right but weirdest thing for me is each time I got different result:

I really don't know what to do make of it base on these test results. My Dell XPS 15 got a much more consistent results overall total time to desktop from 13 to 15 sec and that is running with all start-up programs. Both my desktop and laptop share a lot of similar start-up programs:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Network Magic
Acronis True Image Home

Yeah, I did my check out the setting in my BIOS that might cause the delay but I don't see any thing that might caused it nor was it any quick boot option for that matter. on second thought the delay is most likely caused by the motherboard rather than my SSD considering I tested my SSD with HD Tune without TRIM I was getting average 901MB/sec vs. my laptop's SSD only running SATA II with average 256MB/sec.

From the POST screen take about 6-7 sec
Follow Intel RST screen take 4 sec
and then take additional 4 sec to detect my boot drive.
So it takes about 14-15 sec just to get to the Windows loading screen
