Topic: Best Virus Protection Posted: 09 Feb 2015 at 7:37pm |
Hello all,
Forgive me if this has been posted somewhere already... What do you guys/gals use for virus protection software? I'm currently using McAfee and it's going to expire in March and I'm not thrilled with it. I want something that gives the best protection from the most issues. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any help/info is appreciated. Thanks. Jeff - Poughkeepsie |

I use Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 which it comes standard for Windows 8. Most people on here recommend Eset Smart Security or Nod 32.

I use Norton....free with Comcast. A lot of virus protection is how one surfs and what sites they go on, and if they read the warnings about downloads instead of just hitting OK. Polls and mind games can be a source of viruses.

Oh! .. how could I forget!!?? (Thanks for the reminder, bprat!) ... one of the very best virus protectors out there is NOT a virus protector. It's AdBlock. AdBlock is a free utility that blocks all ads from sites (Except Google, as it's a Google extension) and allows you to browse free from ads that MAY have evil intentions.
Even though AdBlock is free, I have paid for it a couple of times. I want to dev to know that I really appreciate his work. |

Thanks a lot for the replies. I just installed Adblock for Google Chrome.
I have 41 days left of McAfee and after that might give the Avast Premier a go. I can try it first for free. I also run Malwarebytes and CCleaner once every few weeks which are both pretty good. Thanks again. Jeff |

I've used Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, AdBlock, and my own good sense for protection.
I recently switched to Norton Security because of a fantastic deal on NewEgg on the 10-device version and reviews over the last few years that say Norton has really turned things around and is now one of the best. I can't attest to that yet as I've only been using it for a few weeks, but so far it's been pretty unobtrusive and having it on my phone, tablet, and family's laptops certainly is nice. |

I use Avast anti-virus, Malwarebytes, adblock plus, and googleblock add-on for IE. Also I do manual scans with windows defender and a couple others about once per month or if I think I have visited a site that may have problems.
Probably some overkill but hackers are always getting smarter and more tricky. |
