Curious if anyone has used this brand?  I need a new 1080p monitor and this one sounds pretty amazing.  I am currently gaming on a single monitor at 1080p btw.

While I've never used one, I know several people that have, and they all love them. I've heard many great things about BenQ to the point that I'm confident enough to say, you'll be pleased with it.

You're paying nearly $450 for a 27" 1080p monitor though. That's the only thing I've noticed. What kind of games you planning on mainly playing? I ask because that will determine if 144hz is truly needed... or if buying a 27" 1440p monitor 60hz monitor for the same or cheaper price would be better.

You can buy 1440p monitors for as low as $300 (some even at the $275 if you get lucky on ebay) range.

All things aside, if you have your heart set on a 27" 144hz monitor and that is that, regardless of games played etc... then yes, you'll be very pleased with a BenQ monitor.

Good info Meller.  I am gaming on one screen and my new vid card will be a gtx 780ti.  I play pretty much everything other than flight sim or racing games: fps/rts/sand box games (elder scrolls games, saints row).  My current monitor is a 6ms response/60hz refresh and it has never bothered me.  So it sounds like I should look beyond 1080p for the higher quality but not worry so much about the refresh rate beyond 60.

One question - how do higher resolution monitors display some of these older games that have a max resolution of 1920x1080?

Thanks!

I would recommend going up to 1440p as it truly is the gamer sweet spot at the moment.

The ASUS PB series is in the $400 range and it's basically the best 27" 1440p monitor you can on the market at the moment. They're about to release a 27" 1440p 144mhz monitor, but it'll cost $799. Comes out this month.

Outside of, you can buy some Korean brands, like QNIX, for ~$300 and they are all 27" 1440p.

I really think you'd be way happier with a 1440p monitor rather than a 120mhz monitor. Of course, you could always buy the 1440 144mhz $800 monitor from ASUS later this month.

But real talk. You're looking at a BenQ monitor that costs about the same price as the ASUS PB 27" 1440p monitor... and you'll love 1440p.

Here's the monitor I'd very much recommend as I run three of these myself.

Also, just noticed your question. Should you encounter a game that you still play that has a max resolution of 1080p. That's fine. Play it in window mode, and it simply will run a window @ 1080p. If it only has fullscreen mode, then it will auto change the resolution to 1080p, until you close the game... then your screen will automatically go back to 1440p.. Also if you alt tab out of the game, the monitor will auto change back to 1440p until you alt tab back into it.

I ATM can only use one of my GTX 780s, but you will love the gameplay the card puts out. Skyrim looks awesome with a GTX 780 from my old GTX 580.

Why can you only use one? Is your PSU only like 600 watts or something?

That is a slick monitor Meller.  Strangely enough I already had it sitting at the top of my Amazon wish list.  As soon as I recover from blowing my budget on my new ds pc I will get this Big%20Smile.  Thanks for the help and the info regarding playing lower res games on a higher res monitor like this.

Always. You're buying a power house PC. And while there are times when a 120mhz or 144mhz monitor benefit... I want to make sure you see all your options and my personal recommendations on said option.

I truly believe you'll be madly in love with the ASUS PB series 1440p monitor. You won't even been able to look at a 1080p monitor again.

A single 780ti will handle 1440p on ultra settings ? Seen varying benchmark data is the only reason I ask.

Same concern here. I am going with single 780ti and really want to go with a 1440p monitor on ultra but the benchmarks are all over. Some say that 1440p is high enough Definition you can drop AA to low or none and the benchmarks are then much better for a single 780ti on 1440p.

Someone on here with 1440p and a 780ti can probably verify.

Yes, a 780Ti can handle 1440p, no problem. I mean, there are some games that regardless of resolution, you won't be able to run on Ultra and get crazy high fps. But if you're playing CoD, Battlefield 4, any MMO's... stuff like that. You'll be completely fine running things on max settings or damn near.

And you're right on the AA. you can drop it pretty low without taking a huge hit visually because it's such a high definition.

There are times when I've disabled my tri-sli GTX 780ti's because of sli problems, and I still get great fps in many games.
