Hey whats up I'm new to the forums and I just purchased a new behemoth laptop because I'm always on the go. I upgraded parts and down graded parts because I know i can upgrade some parts later this is the build i chose
Behemoth
Intel Core i7 4810MQ
8GB DDR3 1600MHz
1TB 5400RPM HDD
2x SLI (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M 8GB with NVIDIA Battery Boost + NVIDIA Optimus)
Microsoft Windows 8.1

I was wondering will the 8gb of ram be enough for this system or should I upgrade it later down the road?

What all will you be doing on this beast? I highly doubt 16GB is needed.

120GB Samsung 840 EVO

Make sure and wait for others to chime in, but 8GB is plenty for gaming. From my research when buying my rig recently, the only time you really NEED 16GB is if you are multitasking big time (recording, streaming, video editing, etc.) while you are gaming. Again, make sure you wait for another opinion (never go off of just one), but I feel comfortable in saying this.

ah okay,Im working with 6gb of ram on my alienware x51 and it seems to multitask fine, but i read around and I seen that using an 880m its recommended that you use 12gbs of ram witch had me worry would 8 be okay lol. But thanks for your input!

I always say i would rather have something and not need it than to need it and not have it. So if you want the 16 gigs get it, i have 16 gigs in my rig.

Yep, 16gb doesn't hurt but 8gb is all you need. It's easy to add later if your need changes.

My last gaming laptop (not DS) had 8GB and I would run into Windows low memory warnings with certain games if I had Firefox or Chrome open (notorious memory hogs with all the tabs).  With the 16GB on my DS Krypton, I've had no such issues.

So if you plan to do any multi-tasking, definitely consider the 16GB, especially for the future.

Also, get us a review of the Behemoth.  I don't think there are any at all yet.

Thanks.

Well, you can justify 16GB of ram. Especially depending on what type's of SSD's your running.

Several manufactures have a new thing where they use software based caching in their SSD's to take advantage of extra unused ram.

PlexTurbo I believe is one, Samsung's Magician software uses your RAM for caching for 840 EVO's, Pro's, 850+ in their Rapid mode.

So if you can afford to get 16GB 1600mhz or even 1866mhz, you can get better performance even if you're only using ~4GB of ram in real time.

I would recommend getting 16GB as you can actually get real world better performance out of it, using today's new SSD's. And let's face it, in a laptop SSD's are basically king.

Well I didnt get an sdd nor 16 gigs of ram because I had a budget but with that budget I wanted performance so what I was going to do was just save up to get the 16gb of ram and save up to get a large ssd preferably 1tb and just migrate the OS to the ssd when I get it. :D

I would order a Behemoth but i'm too concerned about the heating issues found with the SLI GTX 880Ms. There have been countless posts on NVidia forums regarding the throttling and heating issues associated with these cards. While the Behemoth boasts of great cooling, I just have not seen enough info to cause me to pull the trigger and ignore the myriad of posts from Alienware and Sager users that have sunk money on SLI 880Ms.

Anybody know how well the Behemoth does gaming on SLI 880m GTX?

First of all, I wouldn't trust any reference or information that comes out of an system. They used to be the cream of the crop until they sold out. Now it's just grade B Dell crap IMHO.

Using their info as a reference is just plain silly.

But we all make our choices on information we trust. In the end it's all opinions anyway, and we all know about opinions.

Cheers!
