Hi blankcc....  The p8z77-Z Deluxe has built -in WiFi.  So no extra card needed.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but I recently purchased a DS with this motherboard and want to mention that there's an issue with this board where the USB ports stop working after the computer wakes up from sleep, requiring you to unplug and re-plug devices to get them working again.

Asus fixed this issue in a BIOS update, but unfortunately DS doesn't flash the BIOS up to the latest when they build. My computer shipped with a BIOS version that was 3 revisions old.

Lucan,

Thank you for the details, I'll share this with the team to ensure we can prevent this for future customers.

Lucan,

I also have this board, what version of the bios are you running and do you have any issues with it?

seems weird that DS wouldnt update the bios, and drivers before shipping the PC, not just on this board but any computer.

@Krav_Mind I flashed up to 1015, which is the latest at the moment and my system runs great. Asus makes BIOS updates really easy from within the BIOS tools. When I received the computer, it was running BIOS 0603.

@tju76 I was surprised too.

Well I updated my BIOS, no problem there. I did wish I knew it would reset to all settings to default. It removed the overclocking work DS did.

I did save screenshots of the bios settings when I received the machine. But I would have taken more had I known it would wipe out saved profiles.

Alex: Do you have a customer file that has the settings for things like the BIOS when it shipped?

In regards to BIOS updates and drivers, we tend to use only WHQL drivers and we like to see them in use for a little while before we use them on customer builds. We do use the latest driver for the graphic cards which is important.

In regards to BIOS versions, a majority of the time, the motherboards come with a recent BIOS version and updates are only done by the team if there are issues that affect the stability or features of the machine.

@Krav_Mind, I can forward you settings to use, please email me: Alex@digitalstormonline.com

@Krav_Mind: Apologies, I should have mentioned that. I hope with Alex's help that you're able to get your OC settings back. I enable Asus' "Performance Mode" in the BIOS which is like a lightweight OC (~4.2ghz on my 3770k). The Asus AI Suite II also has a pretty slick OC tool that runs within Windows that will max out your OC settings.

Just to chime in - its not uncommon for any vendor to not update everything.

Alienware/Dell for example take a good 6 months to a year to release GPU updates.

Alex did send me the screen shots, which I will compare to my own.

What parts of the ASUS OC tool kit do I need for the OC part to work, I am warry of installing drivers that could slow things down (Wifi multimedia etc)

@Krav_Mind, here's a very in-depth OC demo from Asus for their Z77 boards: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7jwCe0QXT0

I do wish to say that the auto tune feature tends to put too high of a CPU voltage on the system, I recommend manually setting the BIOS for a better overclock as per the BIOS screen shots that I emailed you.

I defer to Alex and the other DS overlords on the question of OC'ing. Asus' Performance Mode setting is OC enough for me personally.

Sure thing, the performance mode is great for a nice healthy overclock, if you want to take it to the next level (4.5GHz+) then it's going to require some tweaking.

Just to let you folks know. Between what I had already screen captured and what Alex sent me I am back to a nice 4.6 GHz over clock.

Alex is spot on about the voltages, btw what we had in screenshots was a bit lower and the temp came down under stress when I had time to all the manual BIOS entries.

Learn from my mistake, Take screenshots of your BIOS pages (ALL OF THEM) or you can lose the DS customization.

@ALEX Please forward on to your team that the BIOS for this board should be updated before sent to customers for the USB fix.

Shipped to me:
Motherboard BIOS: 0603
*Less then what is even listed on the website for first release!

P8Z77-V DELUXE BIOS 0801:
First release Bios

P8Z77-V DELUXE BIOS 0906

2.Improve memory compatibility.
3.Fix S4 resume fail with Windows 8.

P8Z77-V DELUXE BIOS 1015
1.Improve system stability.
2.Improve memory compatibility.
3.Enhance compatibility with some USB devices. <----------- This was messing with my Cyborg R.A.T.7 Mouse Fixed now!
4.Support new CPUs. <----- this puts in more support for newer CPUs like my Intel Core i5 3570K

Thanks everyone!
