Topic: Anyone Upgrading to Windows 8 ?? Posted: 30 May 2012 at 6:55pm |
DS will have to, but will any of you customers? I'll guinea-pig an old Toshiba laptop (the way I did years ago upgrading from Vista).
For the record, this is what it's all about.

Not me. I stayed with XP through Vista because Vista was such a dog. Win 7 64bit works so well, I don't see the need to go to Win 8. As my Dad used to say: If it ain't broke, don't mess with it. Also, I'm playing legacy simulators that are no longer being supported so I suspect there would be compatibility issues. That said, if I ever do move to Win 8, it will be after the first service pack

I will yes. I try to keep up with the latest OS as i end up having to support it at some point. So when the next release comes out i will upgrade my Win7 box here at work to it.

What do you mean when you say "upgrade?"

After Service Pack 1 at the earliest!
I had enough trouble with my old computer when I wanted to Upgrade from XP to 7 right after release.
Worst thing to do: Upgrade within the first six months after release. Thats also what I did with my MacBook Pro. I should have waited...
Oh well I've learned my lesson now at least (or should I say "last"?).

The idea of such a connected PC doesn't worry anyone? Now when your friend down the road that does bad things at night time and doesn't know how to protect a computer its a root kit they know everything about you that his PC does.
Its like a mulch-thousand-dollar Facebook terminal.
IMO - useless. Note: I am not very educated on Win8.

Not interested in Win 8 with it's candy coating layers blinding users into a false sense of something good for you. With Windows you can do useful things but you can also get into bad situations without even knowing about it.

Windows 9 is probably in the works as we speak.

Shockingly enough, I do not have Facebook (and I'm glad about it).
Logical deduction: This new feature of Windows 8 (being always logged into Facebook) will have absolutely no effect on me!

What I do like about Win8 is the new look of the Hardware monitor. But that becomes redundant, once you install a good third party program taking this job.
And thats about it in my opinion.

Windows 8:
Pros:
Faster boot times.
Generally faster in CPU intensive tests.
Cons:
Metro UI
Generally slower in graphics.
No start button.
Personally, I hated the beta release, and I have no doubt that I will hate the official release just as much. I just can't stand the UI.

The GUI is geared toward the mobile connectivity realm not desktop computing. The look, feel and function is not oriented to anything a technical user would appreciate. It's a boxie push button world of OS automation. The entire experience for a techie is beyond frustrating it is downright obnoxious.

I haven't minded 8 thus far, though I did spend about 30 minutes reverting the entire UI to a more classic look,

i signed up for the 15$ upgrade, I just dont know if Ill use it. For the price, I should, as I hate paying a ton of money for a new OS. But only trying it will I see if it has its issues and im not a patient one to sit through them.
