I considered getting on Bnet to post my gripes about the whole D3 debacle. I figured I would post it here where I feel slightly more safe.
I'll start off by saying that I am a FAN of Blizzard and everything they do. They make quality games, and have been doing so for years. They do not release crap, and they keep people coming back because of the quality of their material.
With that being said, I want to give them further props. I read another forum post of another guy flaming Blizzard for not releasing D3 yet. Blizzard apparently had a meeting and discussed that they didn't want to release the game before Christmas because it wasn't ready.
Christmas really is a big deal for some of these companies. Parents of 14-17 year olds are going to ask for gifts for Christmas, and they'll have to get something else instead of D3 if it were to be released. If D3 comes out in say...February...those same parents might night have the money to get D3 for their respective child since they may not have the money.
This means lost sales, and the above is just one example of this. It's an integrity move as a company to delay the game in order to ensure quality. (The forum post I mentioned applauded Blizzard for the integrity move...I wish I could find it...)
Now here's my gripe, and it's a BIG one.
I am fine with the delay. But WHY, oh why would you announce the game 4 years prior to its beta? 4 years is a ridiculous amount of time. They could have waited, and maybe announced it a year before a guesstimated beta date.
Honestly...to me, it would be like telling my (future) son/daughter: "Hey, we're going to go to (insert amusement park here) but we're not going to go for another 4 years or so!"
That might be a off, but it has to be close. You can tell them far enough in advance to steep them in anticipation, without telling them to wait 4 years.
Blizzard didn't tell us it would be 4 years, but they had to have known it would have been a long time. I also can't imagine they're hurting at all for money. Would they really think that by telling us even 6 months prior to the game's release, that none of us would buy it?
I'm not saying all of this stuff has validity to it, though it is all my own opinion. Flamers, give me your best shot!

I love a good discussion.
