Topic: All Hail the Hailstorms!!!! Posted: 23 Jul 2011 at 11:01pm |
Proud owner of (2) new Hailstorm systems! We actually have had them for
about a month now, but wanted to wait to see how they performed before
posting. OMG!!!
Here are our builds:
Black OPS HailStorm Edition
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz
ASUS Maximus IV Extreme (improved w/o SATA 3G issue)
8GB DDR3 2000MHz GTX-8 Digital Storm Certified
Performance Series
800W Corsair GS
Blu-Ray & DVD Writer/Reader
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX
Technology)
H20: Stage 4: Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System (wife's - green tubing and lights) / H20: Stage 6: Sub-Zero LCS Dual Loop (mine - red tubing and lights)
Upgrade Chassis With LED Performance Fans
Internal Chassis Lighting System
Noise Suppression Package Stage 2
We purchased the following on our own:
OCZ 120GB Vertex 3 SSD (OS drive) - VTX3MI-25SAT3-120G
300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (data drive)
(2) 23" Samsung LED monitors ( S23A550H) each
Bose Companion 3 speakers
Astro Gaming A-40 audio system
The purchase was a breeze (thanks to
Alex, Craig, and Cassandra). The systems arrived early (4 days on my
wife's and 3 days on mine) and although we had a small issue with mine,
we couldn't be happier.
The small issue with mine was with the LED for the reservoir being the
wrong color (not a problem as they sent the correct color to me). Other
than that, nothing but a couple of screaming systems that take on
anything we have thrown at them. If you are on the fence about making
the purchase, don't be. Buy from DS because they have quality products,
caring employees, and take pride in what they send you.
I have been in the IT industry for 20 years (help desk through director
of IT at an international organization) and have built every computer
I've owned for the past 17 years. After comparing the price to do it
myself versus what DS offered, it was a no-brainer as the cost
difference was only ~$350.
I would recommend DS over anyone else out there.

Congrats on two awesome systems! Just out of curiosity, since your systems are fairly similar, how much of a difference are you seeing temperature wise between the stage 4 and 6 LC systems?

Thanks everyone! We love the systems.
@Tidgxor Actually not much of a difference because we run supplemental cooling in our gaming room (an extra 14.5 BTU unit) which keeps the ambiant temp down to around 67 degrees (for a room above the garage and in the mid-south that is pretty good). I'll run some more intense tests over the weekend and get some better (more reflective) numbers and post.

Sounds like you've got quite the setup there, I lived in a very similar situation a few years ago and can definitely have some envy for that room . Take your time on the temps, I was just curious because you are in a good situation to do some good ole fashioned end-user testing that might be useful to future buyers. Congrats again!

Stage 4 and six have the same blocks and rads for the cpu, so thats not gonna change, the difference will be on the gpu's load temps when properly taxed.
