Looking at finally replacing my old laptop with a new one. Before the issues of desktop over laptop, I do need the portability that the laptop provides. My budget (including peripherals purchased from other companies) is capped at $3,500. Primary use is extended period gaming (Diablo 3, Battlefield 3, Mechwarrior Online, Crysis 2 etc.) Currently the setup I have selected is as follows:
Chassis Model: Digital Storm x17 Laptop (Model: 9170) Display: 17.3 Inch (16:9) (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) (Glossy Surface) LED-Backlit Display Processor: Intel Core i7 3920XM Extreme Edition (2.9 GHz Turbo Mode to 3.8Ghz) (Quad Core) (8MB Cache) Thermal Compound: Premium IC Diamond CPU and GPU Thermal Compound (Reduces Thermal & Laptop Noise) Memory: 32GB DDR3 1600MHz (Requires Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate) Primary Hard Drive: 750GB 7200RPM (SATA 3Gb/s) Secondary Hard Drive: - No Thanks Optical Drive: DVD/CD 8x Multi-Drive (Writes and Reads DVDs, CDs) Wireless Card: Bigfoot Networks Killer Wireless-N 1103 (Reduces Latency for Online Gaming) Video Card(s): NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675M 2GB with NVIDIA Optimus Technology Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit Edition) Warranty Plan: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Cost: $3,111.00 I'm interested in hearing both the good and bad about a setup like this. It would be greatly appreciated to hear back on this. Note: Wanted the x17e, but upon query, it will not be available for 6-8 months due to mobo issues. |

ummm only thing i can see (as a tech noob) is you kinda have too much RAM i know bprat will come here and say 8GB is all gaming uses :)
but i think 16GB is good, since i don't think anyone would buy a laptop sololy for gaming and would probably have to multi-task but overall gratz :) also i don't think you need extreme processor. other than that it is great but if you have some more cash to spare i suggest replacing the HDD with an SSD ppl say those things are way faster :) |
