Hello All again, lol.
This is my previous build with some great advice / suggestions from members. I've altered and adjusted some items. I still do not like the look of the HafX case so I just can't go with it. That being said, Since DS is using the Duality version of the Syndicate case it appears to be more ventilation friendly and with the fan upgrades it should be a bit quieter????? So, again, here is my newest build. I have put together two builds with the same equipment except the case. First is the Syndicate and then the Hailstorm. The syndicate is $222. more then the Hailstorm but it should be very impactful in its appearance / presence. Lets hear what ya'll have to say. I appreciate all the great knowledge you all dispense for free. For each of those builds I would recommend one SSD drive.
Also possibly upgrade the cooling to H20 Stage 4. From what I've been told the 120mm radiators on Stage 3 is not worth it. Other that, Indeed it's a great build ;) |

Well how do I know if I need stage 4 or stage 6 cooling and for the CPU, cards and chipset or just CPU and cards or...?
What all is eveyone putting on their one SSD and then putting on the normal HD? What about two SSD's?

Hi shot...I too would go with stage 4 cooling, or drop back to stage 2, Vortex 240mm rad. and save some $$$.
The builds look great. The sli 680's won't meet your initial desire to play at the highest settings at the highest fps with all games on the 30" monitor, but it will play most games maxed and others more demanding on high to ultra with some tweeking of the settings. Of the two builds I would go with the Syndicate's U2-UFO. I think it'll be noisy, DS can confirm or not this over the phone, but it does have nice airflow. And if you're looking for eye candy then this is it. The Hailstorm build would help with all the fan mods, but then in my opinion you're messing with a great, clean looknig case that really is made for watercooling. My last thought would be the Hailstorm config, drop the fan mods and go stage 6 water with cpu and sli cards cooled. It would however be another $250 over the Syndicate. Just my thoughts and best of luck. Keep us posted. Edit....just saw your post as I was writing.....You really don't need stage 6 water cooling for gaming. It is more of a luxury. But, for the Hailstorm it is the way to go. The case is made for just that. For the Syndicate the stage 2 Vortex 240mm, a sealed system, for cheaper than the stage 3 would work fine. Stage 3 will also work fine, but it only has a 120mm radiator as oppsed to the 240mm rads of the others. Plenty of customers have the stage 3 and it works. We just try to suggest the best bang for the buck. Air coolers , like the Noctua D14 for the cpu are great and reliable, but for the X79 platform DS wants at least the stage 2 Vortex with 240mm rad. Either config will work. DS will stress test and make sure it's all good before they ship it. Edited by bprat22 - 25 Jun 2012 at 11:39am |

I would suggest maybe 120gb SSD or higher, and then for the secondary drive a 1TB.
Most people put their OS on the SSD, and maybe a few more important apps. Then on the 1TB drive, games, and other storage. |

So, if I bump the Syndicate up to TRI SLI 680's will the stage 2 cooling work fine or might it be taxing on the system?
I would invest in more GPU but don't mind going with safest minimum cooling as long as it's not going to cause issues? As for the GPU's, Is it best that I go with the 4GB 680's instead of the 2GB 680's? Will it be easier on system? Will I notice anything? Thanks, Shot

Your motherboard and psu can handle the tri-sli no problem. The 4gb vram was made for higher resolutions that you have on the 30". Stage 2 vortex is all the 3820 chip needs.

I spoke to a nice gentleman from DS about the Syndicate configuration. Here is what we came up with. We went with the AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 for cooling since the syndicate has such good airflow. Per DS the new Syndicate case (Mountain Mods) is a quiet chasis and we will do the Noise Suppression Package Stage 1 to make sure it is as quiet as possible. So there will be no H2O cooling. I will be running only two 680's 2GB. I want 4GB but they don't know when they will get any in stock. ( I will stay on that and if I can change them during the build I will). I'm staying with two WD BLK 7200 rpm. I will post some question in the hardware section because I still have questions about going with 10,000 WD velocity Raptors vs. the 7200 Cavair BLK. Tell me what ya'll think. Anyone know if DS normally runs specials or sales around July 4th? Thanks, Shot

Thanks shot for the feedbck. The Noctua D14 is the cooler we always recommend if possible. Not much to go wrong. Keep us posted.

Lots of people dislike the color of the Noctua.
But it functions great, and does the job so that is what matters the most Edited by QuantumPC - 25 Jun 2012 at 4:12pm |

Nothing wrong with an awesome performing and looking rig. Ask DS if they can chnge it to a LED fan without effecting cooling performance. Might not be abl to but ya never know.
