Waiting for a new product to be released is tough waiting but no where as bad as waiting for a new system to arrive. But waiting for a new system to arrive has a nice ending and a reward in the end. I know my 295 always seemed warmer than I liked. It is a dual GPU single card. This is why I was tempted to avoid dual GPU cards like the 690. Actually for the Bolt its a great card due to its power and cooling.

Just the name TITAN makes you want it.

But, the 780 is sooooo close to Titan for $400 less. Nvidia are masters at marketing. The best single gpu card is still the Titan, though.

I am thinking about replacing my EVGA GTX 295. I wish that I could stop thinking about the Titan. The Aventum 2 is out and the copper tubing looks great. I was like you waiting for this, and that. The way I figure it, I could wait forever. As every month something quicker and nicer will come out. Yes, new CPU and mobo are do out within a few weeks, but that as you know would be the slowest till the newer improved performance chip comes out. And the Titan 2 Video cards, etc, etc.

So I ordered my Aventum 2 last month.

Good Luck with whatever you decide, at least you picked the best gaming computer...

Great, glad to see it.

Honestly, not using a monitor. I wanted to purchase a Vanquish to hook it up to my 50" 1080p and utilize my home theater setup. Not the most intense setting ever, but I didn't have room in my apartment for an additional monitor to run 2560x1440, so I figured I'd make something cool out of what I have.

All that said, loving it so far. The best bench I ever had with FFXIV on Max settings was 6150 with the 650 Ti Boost, and just upgrading to the 780 put me at 9005 on the same settings (yes, over 9000).

If you're on the high side of the 600s, you can probably wait until the 800 series, but anyone in the 500s that's not running SLI should really look at this thing. Okay, good to know. I did some new math and estimated an additional 23W for the overclock. 186 (stock for parts according to PC Part Picker) + 23 (estimated OC for CPU) + 250 (780 stock at max) puts me at 459 if every part was running, which is well in range.

I just played BF3 on max settings for about 45 minutes and didn't have any problems. Granted, that's not quite a marathon session, but I was glad to see it running fine.

Appreciate the knowledge (as usual) bprat.

In my opinion, the 600W might make it but real close. The 780 draws more than a 680 and the 680 was close enough, esp with oc'ing, etc. With a psu you don't want to cross the 80% load of the rated power. So for 600w, under 480 watts should be fine.

I think you're good but can't say for sure. Try it. If you start getting BSOD, shutdowns, etc then the psu might be the culprit, but probably not.

Edit... That 333 watt usage I believe was for total system usage, minus oc'ing on the 6 core cpu. TDP of 250watts is the card's rated max usage.

Just that overclocking done right will not shorten the cpu's longevity. The chips are made for it, and with proper cooling and DS doing it, really no problem. Sometimes a call to DS is needed to tweek it a bit, but that's not the usual.

Hey all, quick question related to the 780. I picked up my EVGA stock 780 yesterday and swapped it in for the 650 Ti Boost that came in my Vanquish 3. The manual says it requires a 600W PSU (the Corsair CX600 comes with the Vanquish 3), but I want to make sure that will be enough.

I haven't overclocked the 780, and likely won't. No immediate need to do so. I've seen in reviews that it can hit 333W under its max load. With the i5-3570k being overclocked to 4.4GHz by Digital Storm, I'm curious what sort of wattage that processor is now eating up vs. what PC Part Picker lists as its base usage (i.e. 77W).

I plugged my Vanquish 3 specs into PC Part Picker and got an estimated wattage of 176W. Adding 333W for the 780 puts me at 509W. But, this dŒsn't account for the OC of the CPU. I'm hoping that the 600W Corsair will be enough to handle the increased load that comes with making the move from the 650 Ti Boost to the 780.

From what I've seen, Haswell will be out in June, and have a 10-15% overall performance boost over Ivy Bridge. The integrated graphic is supposedly double the performance. For desktops with a gaming graphics card it's not a big difference but for laptops could be huge for some, esp. with its lower powwer usage for better battery life.

Don't know about the Aventum 2, but those ordering now can ask over the phone for the rigid copper tubing for water cooling.

It's so funny discussions about graphics cards. I personally like Nvidia gtx 680's. Mine run great.

I have a pc with a quad core, one gtx 570 2.5 gb that still runs all the current games with no problems.

So any graphics card you get will be sufficient to run most if not all the current games.

I do agree with you on that. The Trooper case has a lot more features. There are 8 fan filters on the front, 1 underneath where the power supply is, and one on top. The fan controller works good as well.
